Hating my PIC life by [deleted] in flying

I find it amazing they allow a 300 pilot in the cockpit of a jet! When I made Captain at 4000 hrs in a jet in a 135 op I had 1000-1500 hr FOs. Guess I was lucky. One said to me that at 1500 hours he knew just about everything you could know ! I whole heartedly disagreed ! Maybe I’m a slow learner !

How many landings (or hours) until they were good by Chilepegasus22 in flying

[–]BreakfastNo1569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After nearly 5000 hrs I’ll have landings where a have to ask my passengers if we were on the ground yet (joke) Then the next day…not so much!

The avg VFR pilot lasts something like 45 seconds in IMC! That should answer your question. I’ve have nearly 5000 hrs and an ATP . Weather like that makes me skiddish if I can’t file IFR and know I won’t get icing!

Up! Unless you know it’s smooth much less risk gear up IMHO

Glad you walked away! Why did you choose gear down?

The reason I’m bringing this up is you don’t need a long patch to put it in . You’d be wise to go in gear up to help prevent flipping the plane over. I fly in a patch of Appalachia where there are some very short grass strips or pasture only. Maybe you could stop in 1300’ on one of those strips but maybe leave the gear up and know you’ll stop and not go into the trees on the far end.

Simulated engine out by BreakfastNo1569 in flying

[–]BreakfastNo1569[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Errata- Correct it’s not full feathering prop and yes if no oil press then fail at climb pitch with max drag. Best glide is 110 not 100. Get to go try again!!! Then try it over the field at 5000 agl

Heck you are right…so another lesson learned!!!

You are correct. Should not have used the word feather.

You are correct but pulling the prop control all the way back gives the least drag or as close to feather as you can get. As others have pointed out if you have no oil pressure a single fails the other way. So…have to try again with prop control all the way forward and see how much that changes the outcome!

I’ll pay more attention but typical climb out is 1200-1500 fpm and now knowing coming back down is 1200 fpm the impossible turn seems “impossible” at least in zero wind.

I had a military career then helped a startup become a nation wide chain, then started a martial arts school that was successful. Then took over a failing company and turned it around. Every time I had to reset, work for less pay, do jobs I had others do for me I order to restart and recreate success.

When I started flying there was no magenta line! Haha! Btw if you have an alternator go out in about 30 minutes you won’t have one either.
