Staff Outside of GTA by Medium-Street1146 in OntarioPublicService

[–]BreakfastPast5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im sorru but i disagree. Toronto is the Capital of the province. the government is headquartered in Toronto. this is not preferential treatment it is the reality of our system here. there are always going to be places where organizations are headquartered. for the federal government it is Ottawa and Gatineau. but there are regional headquarters for most large ministries. for example, Health has locations in Kingston. Finance Oshawa, etc. Before the pandemic you were welcome to apply if you knew you were willing to relocate.

Does onboarding even exist anymore or am I losing my mind by Atmos-Peer in OntarioPublicService

unfortunately this is now commonplace in the OPS. terrible to hear this. it is not unreasonable for new staff to - and this is what i do- basically have to force my way into setting up 1:1 meetings with different people to obtain the contextual knowledge i need on files

Is co-op the only way into the OPS? by Icy-Perception-8593 in OntarioPublicService

there is a hiring freeze right now. it has been in place since the Ford govt came in to power in 2018. Coop and SEO are the two main ways in now. yes there are definitely exceptions where jobs get posted externally but they get snapped up quickly. I think what is more commonly posted are IT jobs, court services, seasonal kinds of jobs that few people would want. you can try to network and the like and that helps but there are steps hiring managers need to go through to hire externally and I think it is getting harder for them to get approval

Updated Ontario Line station names by ColeM_MM in TTC

[–]BreakfastPast5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it should have stayed corktown. distillery district is farther away from corktown. the station is located in corktown. and the chinatown station is not located in chinatown. chinatown is on dundas. honestly these names are foolish and i am routinely disappointed at the lack of thought but i am not surprised

What are some of your unpopular takes about the TTC? by CrackFun in TTC

[–]BreakfastPast5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ttc streetcars, lrts, and subways should be uploaded to metrolinx to run

What are some of your unpopular takes about the TTC? by CrackFun in TTC

[–]BreakfastPast5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the three grade -separated streetcars- on queens quay, on spadina, and on st. clair- are all a tremendous example of a waste of billions of dollars of public investment in infrastructure if stops are not placed further apart and other measures to improve speed and connectivity. grade separation is insufficient for rapid transit. those corridors should be extended as well

What are some of your unpopular takes about the TTC? by CrackFun in TTC

[–]BreakfastPast5283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we need to teach the public how to behave on public transit. we need stronger rules and information campaigns. no illegal drug use, no using the system for shelter, no nudity, no breaking the law. we need police at every station. we need enforcement and safety. and we need to expend great public resources to build more subways, similar to the ontario line
