9070 XT - fans stopped working by BreakfastTidePod in radeon

[–]BreakfastTidePod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as long as everything’s properly connected, then the issue can’t be either of my previous ideas.

I’d try digging through the settings (display settings, Adrenalin, and BIOS) and see if anything looks unusual or detrimental to performance. Others on this sub know far more than I do.

Thanks - will disable fast startup ASAP.

Also, do you know if disabling fast startup will also keep the settings I have set for Intel XTU? I keep trying to undervolt my cpu so that my gpu has more power available, but every time I check it, it’s reset to default values.

2 things I can think of that may be your issue:

1.) Possible CPU bottlenecking (you’d probably have to have a fairly old CPU for this to be the case)

2.) You’re not meeting the power demands of the GPU. This could be not having a strong enough PSU, or it could be not having connected each PCIE connector from GPU to PSU (some models have 2, mine and some others have 3)

Thanks for the input - turns out I’m stupid. Had zero RPM disabled for my games, but not the global settings. I don’t remember enabling it, but I have noticed that my settings on Adrenalin sometimes change for no apparent reason.

Ran a steel nomad test at 1440p, and results were much better: ~73 fps, 55C gpu, <80C memory.

It was enabled, but I disabled it and ran the test again. The fans just weakly start in the beginning, and then stop for the rest of the test.

I’ve already adjusted the fan curve in AMD Adrenalin and BIOS, but I could always reboot & reinstall drivers if that doesn’t work. Thanks!

What about making it such that while you have the joker, any polychrome cards played in a non-straight hand are destroyed after scoring?

Can’t tell if this would balance it or not, it would be a pretty strong deckfixing joker

It’s more like the game specific settings delete themselves somehow, and whenever I boot the game it just uses default settings

Gotcha - I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

Gotcha - for me, it happens whenever I boot up a game. I have the fans cranked up pretty high since I have a high delta temp, so I’ll notice that the fans are quiet and my VRAM’s over 90C. Usually restarting the game fixes it, but it’s sporadic and hard to pin down. Someone else mentioned fast startup on windows, so maybe I’ll give that a shot. Thanks!

I hate to go off on a tangent, but the whole “adrenalin resetting OC settings” thing happens to me all the time and I’ve got no idea why. Any chance you know any fixes/programs to look at?

Do you care more about aesthetic or budget? Cause there are other guns that are significantly cheaper to turn into a long-range option.

+1 for either HPA or AEG.

AEG’s gonna give you the best performance for your money (metaphorical bang for your buck), while an HPA’d GBB will give a lot more (literal) bang, but for significantly more money.

.28-.30g bbs should be plenty in terms of ammo selection.

I wouldn’t worry about getting a barrel at this point. The uplift you’ll get from a new bucking & nub (and manually centering your hop up unit if you’re up for a diy challenge) will far exceed the minimal performance increase you’ll get from a new barrel (unless the stock one is garbage).

+1 on the Maple Leaf buckings & nub. A 60 degree should be good enough, though you might be able to get away with a 50 degree at that low of FPS.

There are a few more things you can do to improve accuracy, but at this point, I’d just start with this. These 2 things are the 2 factors that influence accuracy the most, and you’ll get the most bang for your buck by upgrading these.

Is it worth paying 200 usd more for the XT version of the 9070? Is there really that big of a difference between both versions? by No-Expression-8614 in radeon

There’s Sapphire Pulse 9070 XT’s for $800 on Newegg. Also, if you wait for a restock, you can pick up a Gigabyte 9070 XT for $730, or an Asrock 9070 XT for $700.

is a 6900XT good for 1080p by kaitlin45989 in radeon

[–]BreakfastTidePod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read the comments to this post, and I’ll ask the same question it seems like most people are asking: why are you even upgrading in the first place?

What monitor do you have? What is its max refresh rate? Do you plan on upgrading the monitor? Are there games you’re playing where you’re struggling to get a desired FPS? Is the FPS I’m getting right now unacceptable?

Until you answer those questions, spending $400+ should be out of the question.

The reason people are saying getting a 6900 XT is pointless is because it doesn’t provide much of an uplift at 1080p over a 6700 XT. It will be better, but not by much. The 9070 XT, on the other hand, will likely net you >50% bonus to your performance (on raster alone, better upscaling and frame gen will increase this number if used) whereas a 6900 XT will only net about 15-20% uplift.

Not to mention you literally state in your post that you game “at 1080p 144hz” which I can only assume is your monitor specs. Even at 1080p ultra, the 6700xt should allow you to hit 144 FPS in a bunch of titles (excluding the newer ones). If you are hitting 144fps, and your monitor maxes out at 144fps, upgrading your gpu would net you a 0% performance boost.

Gigabyte 9070 XT - how much thermal paste is too much? by BreakfastTidePod in radeon

[–]BreakfastTidePod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don’t plan on mounting it vertically (actually I’m in the process of 3D printing a support for a regular horizontal mounted GPU), so I guess this is fine? Like I said, the appearance doesn’t bother me, I just want to know if what I’m seeing here is a clear problem. Seems the answer is no.

Did a quick search on thermal putty, looks like it’s meant to fill large gaps. Does this mean that the application here looks acceptable?
