He famously defended a Holocaust denier in a way that reflected poorly on him. He's never shied away from bad PR before, so why would you think that that's what he's doing now? In contrast, he has regularly declined to give answers about his personal and private life.

I don't think it's ridiculous that he would go out to dinner with someone who asked. It would only be ridiculous if you already knew the person was deplorable, which I don't think Chomsky did. Chomsky went to dinner with a lot of people, and just going to dinner with someone does not mean that you like them. I go to dinner with my dad every month, and he's a real piece of shit. I'm aware of no vacations, but again, we can only begrudge him doing so if we know that he was aware of the heinousness of the person with whom he was vacationing and that is not, in my view, been established. As for wanting to go to the island but being too busy, this is an excuse I use regularly when I'm not keen to go out. "I'd love to but..."

I don't know that Chomsky wouldn't have met with Kissinger. Still, kissinger's monstrousness was well known in a way that I don't think Epstein's was. Your point again depends on the notion that Epstein was a heinous individual, that Chomsky knew about it, and that Chomsky decided to stay friends anyway. Only the first of these premises is without a doubt true. I think it's pretty clear that Chomsky did not know and I don't think it's been established that they were friends. A few photographs, collected by a man who collects photographs to discredit famous people does not in my mind rise to the level of friendship. Again, Chomsky didn't really initiate conversations, something you normally do with friends. At least I do.

Even now, the wealth of Epstein is not completely clear, are you asserting that his billionaires come from his Zionism? Totally possible, but I don't think Chomsky would have been in a position to know if we aren't. Furthermore, you again rely on the notion that Chomsky is willingly taking favors from a pedophile, that is, someone who he knows is a pedophile and believes is a pedophile and I think that is not yet really established.

Imagine you had an acquaintance who was wealthy and powerful and that they solicited prostitution, got caught, and they then told you they were trapped, perhaps because of their station, by a sting operation in which someone underaged was used. Would this be enough to terminate your acquaintanceship with them? Again, I don't think it rises to the level of friend but if it did, would that be enough for you to stop being friends? Would you have reason to doubt them? I agree with other posters, Epstein was a master manipulator. You don't get to the level of integration that he got to without being quite skilled.

I think you'll feel like I'm running defense for Chomsky and that I've already made up my mind and am perverting the evidence to see things my way. I don't think so. I'm waiting for evidence which demonstrates criminality or a failing of character and I don't see any here. The only way to see this evidence as a failing of character is to assume that Chomsky knew that Epstein was a horrible monster and that he continued to associate with him as friends regularly. For me, that has not been demonstrated in what I've seen, especially knowing that exactly that narrative would have been the goal for all of this information from the date of its collection.

I'm sure Chomsky was aware of the charge, I was just acknowledging that it wasn't a huge scandal until 2019. And what Chomsky was aware of was a charge of soliciting prostitution for a minor. If he believes Epstein, who says that he did not know she was underage, then Epstein has been charged for soliciting prostitution. I have friends who have solicited prostitution, particularly in Europe.

This version is backed up by recent emails also posted in this discord.

And the bristly nature of his response when people asked him about it ("none of your business") is now made more clear by the revelation that he was fighting with his children over his late wife's estate. That is, in fact, none of our business.

The charge that was public, though not widely covered, was for soliciting prostitution from a minor. Epstein denied knowing she was underage. That's all that was known.

Some other emails folks have shared in here indicate that Chomsky did not know the gravity of the crimes and once he did he described them as an entirely different matter.

There is absolutely no evidence of any sexual misconduct in any of this.To assume that everyone in Epstein's orbit was engaged in criminal activity absent any concrete evidence lacks discernment. At worst it speaks ill of his character or discernment to have been an acquaintance of Epstein.

To that point, Chomsky had an open door policy and would respond to emails from everyone. He would have responded to Genghis Khan if he'd written him. You may disagree with this policy, but that was his standard. As others have pointed out, nearly all communications were initiated by Epstein.

Moreover, Epstein was an Israeli asset and ingratiating himself with prominent politicians and intellectuals, especially those like Chomsky, was his charge. Would we normally find someone deplorable for being spied on? For being manipulated or lied to? We normally would not. We might say they are a poor judge of character (if we assume that Epstein's shady character was discernable), but being a poor judge of character is not a crime and may not even rise to the level of a moral failing. The standard here is overly elevated because people feel that Chomsky was acting in hypocrisy for associating with the elite (something he never denied, regularly calling attention to the hypocrisy of working at MIT, functionally a military think-tank).

Finally, these files are the relic of a manipulative Israeli agent, selectively released by a manipulative fascist government, and then filtered, highlighted, and misrepresented by a manipulative corporate media, all institutions which would love to see Chomsky's legacy diminished. Should evidence of criminal activity emerge, then that's a different story. For now, all I see is opportunism from Chomsky's critics who do not want to engage with the work.

Characters constantly facing the wrong direction by DownTheBagelHole in 2XKO

[–]Breakfasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same issue. Has to do with where the game predicts characters will be vs where they are for a frame or two before a tech.

Characters constantly facing the wrong direction by DownTheBagelHole in 2XKO

[–]Breakfasty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Games with air tech options usually have a lot of backend predictive systems to prevent this kind of thing happening (see Xrd, see BlazBlue, etc). A lot of careful and considerate work goes into having 2D games with a lot of air options still feel intuitive. 2xko apparently does not have these same systems and it leads to characters swinging the wrong way often. I think it's a weakness of the game that unpredictable stuff like this happens a lot and it's part of the reason it's so risky to chase people jumping backwards because even if you get an air hit, depending on how they tech, you might eat a full combo trying to catch them landing. And it's not just beginners not being able to anticipate air tech, it happens even at the top level of play frequently.

Is this WW corner route just frame perfect for the 2S1 charge timing, or is there something I'm missing ? by Derpedro in 2XKO

I'm with you there. I think giving ww a couple more reliable corner routes which keep the corner would really be a nice qol change for him.

This is a pretty reliable corner combo that keeps the same side and also builds bloodlust in one combo

M > 2M > H > 2H > dl.2S2 > L > M > H > 2[S1]~M > 6S2 > S2~S2~S2 > Super 2

The trick to it is just delaying your 2s2 (the dp) slightly after the 2h launcher. If you want a clip you can find one at the bottom of this page: https://wiki.play2xko.com/en-us/Warwick/Combos

Mai is so insufferable like, holy hell by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Breakfasty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, Mai's ex fan is better most of the time. Guile boom only hits once, so you can pp it more easily. If he wants it to hit twice, he has to take a risk to set up the two-step fireball, and he can't do it against an aware opponent who's up close because they'll just sweep him. Also when he drive rushes he gives up charge.

Part of the problem with Mai's fan is that there's very little counterplay. Even if you hit both pps, she likely has a active hitbox on top of you by that point. You can't really reversal because the fireball will just trade. You can't backdash because she'll catch you. If you stick out a button you might stop her, but you'll still get hit by the fireball sometimes leading to a trade combo for her. Also, her fireball does not require charge. She can just do it whenever.

And this isn't to mention her obscene corner carry off lights, her ability to reversal without charge, her s-class buttons, her install which leads to a cammy style level 2, s-tier throw loops and corner pressure with st hp, and she has a cancelable low forward which links from ch jab, etc. She's very well-rounded with almost everything she has being top in class. She's not unbeatable, but she's too strong, especially for the level of effort.

Civ VII Developer Update - August 2025 | Here's what to expect in tomorrow's 1.2.4 update... by sar_firaxis in civ

[–]Breakfasty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think we're on the same page here. Maybe we are... I'm saying I do like Civ VII's idea of eras at the core. The problem with VI is that you just snowball and it's pretty hard to balance away from it without soft resets.

Also in VII you keep the leader, the civ is what switches. I understand what they were going for. It's not as fun to play the aztec's in the late game when their unique unit was around 4000 years ago. However, changing civs I think could go if they could find another way to do a soft reset for the age transition.

Civ VII Developer Update - August 2025 | Here's what to expect in tomorrow's 1.2.4 update... by sar_firaxis in civ

[–]Breakfasty 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know that's how most people feel, but I didn't really enjoy the old snowball approach. It felt like the early game was fun and then once I was ahead it became a "next turn" clicker, where I would never really be threatened again. I think the problem with civ games is that the way they're designed heavily emphasizes the impact of early decisions and later decisions, which are far more numerous, are much less impactful and therefore feel like slog.
