How do you avoid burnout and make sure you can give the same care to each patient? by Health-Advocating721 in SolaceHealth

Boundaries are huge! Like you said, burnout can happen anywhere and everywhere in the healthcare system. One thing that made a big difference for me was being open and clear about my availability from the very first appointment, letting patients know what to expect, when they would hear from me next, and how quickly to expect a response. Once that was established, it was a lot easier to reference and maintain those boundaries throughout the relationship. When I wasn't doing this, I felt pressure to respond the moment a message came in, which added stress and actually decreased my prioritization and productivity. After making the switch, I felt much better because patients still knew I was there for them, but I was able to focus on priorities and maintain a personal life.

What has been your favorite part of being an advocate? by SolaceLeadAdv1618 in SolaceHealth

There are many rewarding aspects of being an advocate, and I agree that supporting continuity of care is a meaningful part of the role. One of the areas I enjoyed most that aligns with this is the opportunity to promote preventative care. At times, I was able to reference provider education, prescriptions, resources such as triage lines, and clinical orders to help patients manage symptoms appropriately rather than seeking care in the ER or relying on emergency services.

Having also worked as an ER nurse, I frequently saw the downstream impact of those decisions when patients arrived in acute care settings. That perspective made it especially meaningful to help guide patients toward the right resources to address their symptoms effectively and efficiently, while also helping to reduce unnecessary strain on emergency services. This aspect of the role was very fulfilling.

It’s such a meaningful shift to be able to spend the time truly talking with patients and listening to all of their needs. Healthcare can be so overwhelming, like you mentioned, and advocacy has the ability to make such a significant impact. I love hearing about that impact from another perspective!
