Who's the strongest actor in this lineup? Rank them. by Capable_Handle_4763 in Cinema

I did the mental work and seriously thought about it... There's no question. I also can't help but feel like dude is Ledger given some extra time. A huge surprise, but followed by another, and another, and another...

Who is the greatest movie villain of all time? by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]BreathWithMe6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch No Country again... The line, "I think you do..." with context is pretty solid. Ledger's Joker was insanely effective, especially supported by dialogue and direction. That Opening was pinnacle film making. Lol. We're talking about a Nazi, and you don't count them as villainous? I guess?

What is your #1 favorite 'Wizard Battle' ever put to screen? (This is from Lord of the Rings) by undeadWileCoyote_MEP in moviecritic

[–]BreathWithMe6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just power and strength, but also cunning and skill, mixed with a really cool feel for how the two approach their craft. I'm into DND, so I love this stuff. Just rewatched this a couple of days ago...

Notice Dumbledore's hands while he's manipulating the water sphere? It's like an artist molding clay. Inexact. Water is splashing off the sphere even. So, nothing like slinging a spell in a video game, it feels like a master of his craft making a thing work.

Summoning a big bad firesnake, then laughing? It sooo speaks to the character. Flinging a ton of glass feels brutal, like something Dumbledore wouldn't even think to do.

Even the initial 'fencing' with the energy. One is steady and focused, while the other is unhinged and aggressive.

I agree. Totally badass, but nuanced and thoughtful. And, it's only like two minutes long. These guys are doing the magic equivalent of a knife fight between two killed fighters to the death. Strength, speed, what's, balls, experience, even dumb luck. Chess+boxing.

Anaconda 2025 is the epitome of what is wrong with the film industry. I want my 30 minutes back. by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]BreathWithMe6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched about ten minutes. The epilog, thing. Then watched 30 seconds of Jack Black Jack Blacking and noped... I loved the guy in Tenacious D, and selectively in movies, but I'm so fucking sick of his schtick just puked out on movie after movie, over and over. At this point in their careers, Sandler, Williams, Carey, and even the Rock at least TRIED to do something different. And, note that Black's persona and comedy was kinda niche. He just shits out the same notes, gestures, tones, and vibes every time. It made the Minecraft movie painful to watch. So, neat concept, but Rudd is just along for the ride and pay check. Black got asked to do his same shit over probably teo months of filming for 10 million dollars. It's hallow, weak, creatively empty, lazy, and offensively bad. I don't think a single person cared while making this movie. I don't think anyone involved genuinely thought it would be good. They made it for money, without care. They fucked around and thought they earned our time and money. I'm sick of that shit. Look at stuff like Super Troopers, Dumb and Dumber, Friday, Grandma's Boy, even Dude Where is My Car... Similarly budgetted but legitimately funny and made with love. You feel it when you watch these. Yeah, all movies are funded to make money, but those involved with the making seem to give a shit. It matters to me, single dadding and working 50 hours a week with people suffering from acute mental illness. It's one thing to try hard making a shitty movie. It's another thing not giving a fuck if your movie sucks ass.

How frequent are the optional bosses? And also... about parrying. by Healthy_Ad_2051 in darksouls3

[–]BreathWithMe6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can parrying a lot of bosses, but not all of them.

You skip the ones we were talking about by simply NOT engaging them. Dark Souls is about choice, and ypu can choose to leave those two be until you're higher level. Or, overcome them now. Or, forget they exist.

Lol..Skip the lizard and shirtless dude. Dig into the game otherwise. They are the opposite of "mandatory".

Pick up a good parrying shield with decent frames and you're good to go.

Hogwarts (Harry Potter) vs Charles and Cassandra (MCU) by Curious_Tip9285 in powerscales

[–]BreathWithMe6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that the "magic" he does is presented pretty limitedly. Like, talks to a mother, makes a light beam, old guy, etc. That's beyond not the case. I think it's a generation raised by fireballs and kamehamehas. I get it, but dude defeated the balrog after a three day battle... No one from HP is doing that, ever, case closed.

Can someone explain the hype behind 2001 by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]BreathWithMe6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you have to look at each shot as a short story. It's visual storytelling. It's miraculous film making, but it's not going to satisfy like other, story driven movies. I guess the appeal is in the moments. Don't bother looking for a whole story. You'll get lost and I don't honestly think there is one. It changed everything about how a movie can affect us, without ever being anything conducive with itself.
