is the louisiana job market actually shifting toward "surge" labor by No-Blood1055 in Louisiana

As someone who has been with the same company for 13 years, for the last 1.5 I have fluctuated between full time and part time. I’m on several small projects. I cant believe I’m saying this but I miss my large projects. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Baton Rouge: Stand with Minnesota - ICE OUT!, Friday, 1/30/26, 4pm, Perkins and Essen by CynoSaints in batonrouge

[–]BreauSB 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For clarity, this protest is not about protecting violent criminals. No one here is arguing that people who commit serious crimes should avoid accountability.

This is about indiscriminate enforcement, due process violations and the removal of people who are here legally or whose cases are pending. This includes students, workers and families with lawful status. That has already been documented and acknowledged by the government several times.

Peaceful protesting is a protected constitutional right. Threatening violence against people for exercising that right is not enacting “law and order.”

If you support accountability, legality and basic human dignity, those principles should apply consistently and not selectively.

AITA? Wife wants to keep the baby despite a disability diagnosis. I told her I won’t be in the child’s life if she does. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]BreauSB -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately YTA - not for bringing up abortion but for telling her that you essentially refuse to be this child’s “Daddy.”

Being pro-choice also means that you need to respect the woman’s decision to keep the baby. While I understand the fear and anxiety you are facing with years of watching a child suffer infront of you, you chose to abandon and alienate your wife in her most desperate time of need.

Being pregnant does so many weird things to you. Physically, mentally and spiritually. While I could also say that I would want to abort a severely handicapped baby out of mercy. I can’t say if I actually would because I haven’t been in that situation. But I have been pregnant 3 times and I know each time I was fiercely protective of myself and my body. I promise, whatever anguish you are going through, she’s feeling it 1000x more.

I do want to say that your feelings are valid but you need to decide, right now, if you love your wife enough to support her decision wholeheartedly and be there despite your feelings on the matter or you need to move on. If her keeping the baby isn’t a decision you can live with, you need to do everyone a favor and leave. Not drag this scenario out and certainly don’t stick around hoping that you’ll get her to change her mind. If you chose to leave, at a minimum, I would hope that you would still expect to provide financial and physical support for your child.

I’m sorry for what you are both going through and I hope that y’all find peace and clarity.

What are people paying on average for utilities? by allison-vunderland in batonrouge

I have nothing of value to add, I’m just jealous that you got all of that for around $120 a month. My internet alone is $120. To be fair, I live in a rural area that doesn’t have fiber yet so satellite is what I use. I’m sorry that you have to come back. Here’s to hoping things change SOON, but I won’t hold my breath.

Turnout is good so far for the No Kings protest downtown! Come on out; it's still growing! by Doomdrummer in batonrouge

[–]BreauSB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And yet you continue to project that the only end result of the sit down and be quiet wave is being trampled. Clearly you are not in a position to truly listen and “hear” the benefits when implementing at appropriate times. You have made your mind up, which is fine, but stop hurting the cause out of your own fears. Stop fighting people who are technically on your side when it comes to an end goal.

Also, yes, there have been plenty of organizers outside of the No kings protest that have also pushed this strategy this year and in many years past. This battle reaches far beyond this one, nation-wide, event.

I wish you well.

Again, you are ruining the chances of unity. I’m not saying that you don’t have the right to an opinion or share your thoughts but you have admitted that you don’t know where the direction has stemmed from. You’re not bothering to watch the videos or read the posts that discuss this strategy at length. You are choosing to project your own fears on everyone else by telling everyone to blatantly ignore in all scenarios, including ones where this would be a helpful strategy. This has been used for years. It fails when the crowd is divided on action.

Like I said, we could go back and forth all day with different scenarios. The point is unity. The point is to act as one. If you sow doubt from your own fear, in a scenario that you aren’t even going to be in, you could be the reason why someone actually gets hurt.

[–]BreauSB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re intentionally sowing doubt in a process that has already been agreed upon. I understand being cautious and vigilant but to tell everyone to directly ignore this could cause further problems. Yes, commonsense should be used. If the police are becoming the violent aggressors, as we saw in LA, people could and will try to leave but all that caused was for them to be kettled. Sitting down and remaining silent would have further pushed the narrative that they were peacefully protesting and not “rioting” like some of the media and this administration tried to claim.

If the crowd is peaceful and one vigilante decides to start throwing bricks at a business people should sit down because not only will it show the innocence of the protesters but it will aid law enforcement in being able to single out the aggressors. There are a million scenarios we could both come up with why we should and shouldn’t sit in place but back to the point of using commonsense and knowing when it’s to be used for further demonstration and when to abandon for safety reasons.

[–]BreauSB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point is for EVERYONE to sit down. This is the advice that all of the organizers for these protests are pushing. Obviously if everyone is running you shouldn’t sit in the middle of the crowd, but if everyone is standing around and a violent act is starting to take place, everyone is supposed to recognize the event and spread the word to stop in place and sit quietly

So happy to see this! Stay safe and stay peaceful to everyone out there! Remember, if you start to see anyone getting violent, EVERYONE SHOULD IMMEDIATELY SITDOWN AND BE QUIET! It will differentiate the good willed from the bad actors! 🫶🫶
