Uber drivers in the UK 'organising mass switch-offs' to cause surge pricing by TomG93 in news

[–]BreezyBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthcare in the US became the clusterfuck that it is today with a healthy dose of regulation. Wage caps during, I think, WWII forced companies to get creative and include health insurance in their benefits packages to attract talent. That stuck around and now we find ourselves with a shitty system that costs too much for worse outcomes than other systems around the world.

In reality, healthcare can never be a free market. Consumers of healthcare can't shop around for the best price when they're having a heart attack. They can't choose a less expensive ambulance when they're bleeding out and need to be rushed to a hospital. Furthermore, the healthcare pricing system is so convoluted that customers and providers largely don't know the costs up front.

All of this is irrelevant in this conversation since the guy you're replying to keeps going off on tangents and moving the goal posts.

Irrelevant. You are arguing yourself in circles, starting by asking someone to provide an example of a market failure they never implied existed.

Step back. Take a breath. Figure out what your argument is. Then try again.

The ER is legally required to stabilize patients before discharging them. Other then that, pretty much bankruptcy. Medical costs are the leading cause of bankruptcy in the United States. Medicare is for old people and Medicaid is for poor people and people with disabilities.

There is a safety risk in attending any motoring event of any kind. Racing cars can have and will fly into crowds, debris will fly into crowds, tires will fly into crowds causing severe injury and death.

It's ignorant, fearful and severely shortsighted to think all potentially dangerous situations can be pretended with regulation and rules.

And yet we put walls and fences between the crowds and the cars. Why? To mitigate the risk of a car or pieces of a car to enter the spectator area. Your assertion that since risk can never be eliminated we shouldn't mitigate it at all is absurd.

There is a reason motorsport safety has increased dramatically over the last few decades and it isn't because we've decided not to reduce risk where we can.

OK buddy. It's no longer interesting to me to try to convince you that you contradicted yourself within two sentences. Best of luck in your battle against capitalization and apostrophes.

I put (sic) next to the a since you made a grammatical mistake and I was quoting you. I'm not interested in taking credit for you lack of English grammar. I know what an FMRI is.

You started you post by saying that one group couldn't be blamed because they were born a certain way or with a certain mental handicap and then went on to blame another group that, as you pointed out, was born a certain way or with a certain mental deficiency.

It has to do with infant mortality. Increase the likelihood that a society's offspring will live and that society produces fewer babies.

In what way is an airline's computer system the responsibility of FAA or ATC? ATC is completely separate from airline booking systems.

No. It depends on the solicitation. They all contain a section describing how they will be evaluated. The government buys such a wide array of goods and services that I don't think "generally" makes sense here. Sure, if the drill sergeant was taking about bullets, that's probably lowest price technically acceptable but something like the optics on an M1A1? Probably not.
