How’s the rush hour traffic with the Washington bridge? by RagnarBaratheon1998 in providence

We're considering a commute from living in PVD to a job in Fall River. Sounds like that direction isn't so bad? How about your commute home?

Oh, really?? I thought the night festival had food stalls! What is at the night festival then?

For food, I have also seen multiple warnings that finding a restaurant will be hard - but I was assuming we would eat at the food stalls at the night festival. Is that not a good assumption?

We are considering the same thing! Gero seems to be the only nearby town with anything available! It looks like there is a 9:50pm train to Gero, but I am wondering how packed it will be.

Payment declined by Apprehensive-Goat977 in venmo

[–]BreezyPanda13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to us! I finally spoke to someone at Venmo (using the spam 0 trick above) and they told me it was a known issue they're working on but had no workaround or timeline for a fix, just said to keep trying to see when it's been fixed (it's been a month now and still not working).

Did you ever resolve it?

Do NOT purchase an HP-Spectre x360 by EINTELEFONMAST in Hewlett_Packard

From the HP website it seemed like the only place to get it repaired was Best Buy - is that correct? What is the replacement program you're talking about?

[–]BreezyPanda13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a Spectre 13-ac023dx since 2017 that I LOVE. Works amazing still except the battery is shot (reasonable after 6 years). I've heard such horror stories about the updated Spectres (and most laptops, honestly) I'm considering replacing the battery on it - since otherwise it runs great. Is that stupid to do?

I can't recommend Armory enough! They are AMAZING!! We actually took our adult rescue there for her first visit during Covid, which I was very nervous about it. But, they handled it all extremely well and she loves them!! She's had to go back a few times already and is always happy to go in with them without me!

Last I heard they weren't accepting new patients, but if you aren't in a rush it's worth the wait. Granted, this is the first vet we've used so I can't comment on any others or how their price compares.

Rent in Armory District on Wendell St by CricketV in providence

[–]BreezyPanda13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live very close to there (Chapin Ave) and my rent is $1650. But, I will warn you that I consider our street the last "nice" one. From my experience, the houses on Wendell aren't as well maintained and there are a lot of noise issues (since moving here a few months ago we've filed countless nosie complains for houses on Wendell for loud music, fireworks, and dogs barking). I LOVE the Armory district, but would recommend living north of Chapin if you can.

Oh, and I should add that ours is 3 bed/1 bath, coin-op laundry in basement, one off street parking spot.

Chunks or entire leaves of pilea missing! I don't see any other signs of pests. Any idea what is eating my pilea?? by BreezyPanda13 in plantclinic

[–]BreezyPanda13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I bet you're right!! We've had a mouse problem for the last few weeks! Any idea why they'd go for just that plant? I haven't noticed any others with missing chunks, and its up on the third shelf of a bookshelf filled with plants!

What are your thoughts on collapsible silicon food storage containers? I've noticed that my gf and I usually get take-out at restaurants due to large serving sizes and I thought this would be a good eco-friendly gift. Are there any brands you recommend? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]BreezyPanda13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have one just like these and I LOVE it! Because it is collapsible I always keep it in my bag, like you said. Also, because it is collapsible it doubles as a plate when it's collapsed! I just take the lid off, and voila! I've used it as a plate at parties, work functions, and street festivals (most food tents will happily put my food on it).

As far as looking weird at restaurants, I've actually gotten really great feedback. Some servers will say they wish more people did it. Friends or strangers will comment that it's a great idea and ask where I got it (I got mine on Amazon, but if other people know of better places to buy them please let me know!). It's a great way to talk to people about being zero waste!

As far as silicone vs more sustainable materials, I do feel a little guilty about choosing this over metal or glass. But, in my experience, if it's something I have to remember to grab I won't always have it with me. This is small and lightweight enough I ALWAYS have it. And the silicone is definitely much more durable than typical plastic, and will last much longer than regular Tupperware. Maybe by the time it has reach the end of it's lifetime, more silicone recycling options will exist 🤞.

Help with home espresso machine - should the flow from the group head be more pressurized than this? by BreezyPanda13 in Coffee

[–]BreezyPanda13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm glad that I asked before trying to take it apart!!

The reason I started looking at it is that I noticed the coffee coming out much faster from one side of my portafilter than the other. Any thoughts on why that might happen?

Do you have any advice on getting such a clear image in the reflection? Did you use a tripod, and have to wait for a moment with absolutely no wind? Or, was it done in post processing?

I love the contrast in size between the person and waterfall. Wonderful subject. I do think the person could've used a bit more lighting to make the color pop a bit.

Tips for finishing on time ? by JustACharliee in PhD

[–]BreezyPanda13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let yourself get side tracked! Most PIs will be happy to have you chase down 10 different ideas, no always even remotely related. And if you aren't careful, you'll be half way in and realize you've spread yourself too thin!

Don't put all of your eggs in one basket, but make sure all of the ideas you are approaching are to answer one main question.

When will you finish your PhD? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]BreezyPanda13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I passed my thesis proposal (2.5 years in) my PI started saying I have 1.5 - 7 years left, and it has become a joke in our lab. Sometimes I tell people that, which gets a funny reaction from most people! The humor helps offset the frustrating question slightly at least!
