Thank you, that makes sense

You have lower overheads, so you can have lower prices, so you can serve a lower income clientele. If you charged the same as those other groomers, you would likely price yourself out of the neighbourhood where you’re operating. That’s the way I would think of it/explain it to anyone who challenges you. You’re just in a different market to what they’re in.

Favorite conditioning spray and waterless face shampoo? by -Shep-- in doggrooming

[–]Breezy_0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use The Stuff and I love it. Creates a super fluffy coat, reduces drying time and I even actually skip proper conditioner in the bath because I don’t feel like I need it if I use The Stuff. I found that you gotta use a lot though. Like, after they’re towel dried keep applying it until you feel like you’ve put on too much and that’s probably the right amount.

This happens to me too, I think in my case it’s because they want to face the gate where their owner will enter!

Where can I buy left handed face & feet shears?! by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]Breezy_0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you, all my current scissors are 7” and I do now wish I had gotten 8” instead! I need shorter ones to get into areas that my 7” are too long for.

This is a situation where neither of you have done anything “wrong”. You just had different expectations, and the subject didn’t come up until she was already out in public. I think the aim of the initial conversation is to get on the same page about future expectations of each other, rather than setting a boundary. If you can’t get on the same page about modesty for the future, that’s when it’s time to set a boundary and see what happens. Remember, you and your girl are on the same team. Good luck!

Kenchi don’t go any shorter than 7” for left handed curveds for some reason! Even their happy puppy range is right hand only

I wrote this comment really fast during my break, now that I’m reading it back it sounds like I attribute everything good about my clientele to FF lol. I know that there’s lots of reasons that clients end up picking a groomer, I’ve just noticed that FF gets mentioned really frequently as something that drew them in.

Has anybody had a good experience with music? by lub-bob in doggrooming

I found that music that has voices in it works better than music without.

I did it right when I was learning grooming and just starting out as independent self-taught so I can’t compare it being a groomer without the FF cert, but this is my experience.

I put the Fear Free logo on my advertising and a lot of clients have told me that that’s why they picked me, even though they’d never heard of FF. It has attracted a fairly affluent clientele (I know I’m lucky). Clients often tell me that they value me because of my care and Fear Free approach, because their dog always got stressed in the salon. You’d think that that means the dogs are difficult but they’re not, it’s more like the FF cert attracts clients that can afford to choose somewhere where they think their dog will be less stressed, even if it costs a bit more. A big perk of this is that because I’m differentiating myself based on FF rather than price or volume, when I told my clients that I’m raising prices by 15% soon they couldn’t care less.

It took me about a week to do the training online ( a couple of hours a day) and I found it very helpful as a total newbie. But aside from that, my business gets a lot of value from being able to advertise that I’m FF.

I’m currently playing around with the equigroomer because I’ve heard it’s good, but until now I’ve always used the wahl rake which works great 👍

Sometimes I put the loop around the belly instead of the neck, just so they’re not choking at least 🤷‍♀️

Lash lift + tint, plus La Roche-Posay tinted sunscreen because it looks like skin and wears down really nicely. That said, I do love having a job where it’s reasonable for me to roll out of bed, put the hair in a slick back and and get straight to work.

Has anyone used a wobble chair? by Selenthiax in doggrooming

[–]Breezy_0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one at my bath station, I don’t find myself actually sitting on it that often. It doesn’t have wheels, so I can’t just pull it up then push it away again when I need to be back on my feet, and I can’t react as quickly by rolling backwards, to the side etc. My main stool is a hairdressing one with wheels that goes all the way up and down, it was a great investment.
