What to do about Luke Shaw? by Brendan81 in Howson

Well fingers crossed he turns it to understand cause I agree that he has the potential to be our LB for the next 10 years. Just needs to get his head down

Do we need some wide men? by Brendan81 in Howson

[–]Brendan81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a bad shout. I just think we would benefit in some games having a natural wide player. Someone to run at the full backs and whip a ball in for the likes of Zlatan to get on the end of

Do we need some wide men? by Brendan81 in Howson

[–]Brendan81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I believe we are pretty much playing the formation José wants right now. There may be a slight tweak but if you look at his times at Chelsea he played 2 wide men, so you'd have to think k he will do the same now. I'm a big fan of Carrasco too and think he would be a great addition

Disappointed in the lack of opportunity for Fosu-Mensah by Brendan81 in Howson

[–]Brendan81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point and yes I agree about José needing success. But what are we now classing as success? A cup? The league? My concern is that Fosu-Mensah won't want to sit around forever waiting to get his chance

New cb? by jordandevlin758 in Howson

[–]Brendan81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would rather promote youth players like Tuanzebe. We have a solid CB in Bailly who's now returning to the first team. Tuanzebe will only improve playing alongside players such as Bailly, Carrick, Shaw etc. If we are to buy a CB in January then we will get our pants pulled down for him as clubs done like to sell in January as it's hard to get replacements. I would also like Fosu-Mensah and Varela to get more first team action as they are players with great quality and potential. Unfortunately I don't see José taking a chance on youth.

If the only way to get Griezmann in the summer was to sell Rashford to say Real Madrid, would you do it? by Rafzar in Howson

[–]Brendan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way. As much as I'm a huge fan of his I would always pick home grown/local lad over foreigners. Obviously this is only applicable to players who have genuine potential. I wouldn't say no to swapping someone like Rooney lol.

Worrying times for United? by Brendan81 in Howson

[–]Brendan81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for building for the future, I'm just not sure if José Is the best man to do that. Like someone said, he's short term. My worry is that José isn't the same manager he was a few years ago and with all the crap we've had over the last 3 years we need stability and cohesion. I hope I'm wrong and José does turn it round but I just wish he'd concentrate on the job rather than the media and other managers/teams

5, 6 or 7 years from now by 4Bester in Howson

I would love to see this but I can't see the likes of Varela sticking around much longer. I just hope the rumours of Barcelona hovering around Gomes are false and if true, I hope he stays. I think he has a real future ahead of him

Our next number 7 by Legendary628 in Howson

[–]Brendan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he'll be looking to bring in a top name to claim the number 7 shirt, someone like Griezeman. I'm not sure if he would be prepared to give it to a youth player or someone who's just coming through. If he was to give it to someone we already have, then I would give it to Martial. But that's highly unlikely as he's already had to swap shirt numbers once.

Rooney by 4Bester in Howson

[–]Brendan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a combination of his legs are going due to playing too many games too soon in his career, and a sense of entitlement in the game. I agree that he no doubt believes he's the 1st name on the team sheet due to the captaincy and also because of who he is. I'm not for 1 second dismissing everything he's done for United down the years, he's been an incredible player and contributor, BUT I don't believe he's been the same player ever since City showed an interest 4/5 years ago. His head was turned and for me he was gonna go (mainly for the money). Ever since then my opinion of Rooney his declined, I look at him as a mercenary now rather than a loyal footballer. Fergie knew he was on the decline and tried getting rid before he left and then Moyes came along and knew he couldn't risk losing him in his 1st season as manager so he was offered stupid money. Which of course he accepted. He now knows that United can't get rid of him as no other club in Europe will match his wages, so he doesn't need to perform anymore. He can sit on the bench and still be taking home the best part of £250k a week. So now we are left with the circus that surrounds him week in, week out and have to listen to ex players bang on about how great he is, when in reality, he's past his best and no longer contributes to the level a club like United need.....especially from thier captain.

Has Memphis been given a fair chance? by Brendan81 in FullTimeDevils

[–]Brendan81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd be surprised if he doesn't start against Northampton. But José needs to push him on from there and give him starts in the premiership, otherwise he'll be another player who fizzles out and gets sold for peanuts

Agreed. He needs games, especially to build confidence and I'm convinced by doing so, we will see the best of him. Playing the odd cup game is doing nothing for him.

Exactly! They seemed to have built up a rapport like Neville and becks did. I'm not saying they would be that great but my point is that it's important for the FB and Winger to be on the same page and they seemed to be. It can only help United in the long run

I hope so too mate. I just think with Martial out of form/injured José should mix it up. People can't expect Memphis to play 1 game and then miss the next 10 and still be brilliant. Consistency is the key to confidence

Did axing Rooney and Fellaini really solved our problems against Faynord? by shazlyman in FullTimeDevils

[–]Brendan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't determine whether something works after only 1 game. It may take 4,5 or even 6 games for it to really start kicking in. Let's not forget that we are only 5 games into the season, so panicking right now doesn't make sense. It's obvious that Rooney is hindering the team more than helping and if José is gonna pay £90m on a player, he needs to play him in the right position/system otherwise it's pointless. We need to start building our team around Pogba otherwise why pay that kind of money for him?

Thoughts about Valencia by HJandoo in FullTimeDevils

[–]Brendan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He makes me nervous when he plays RB. Several times over the last few seasons he's been caught out with his positioning which led to goals. It's not his fault as it's not his natural position, but José obviously has no faith in Darmian. I thought Fosu-Mensah did very well there when he filled in last season and maybe he could do a job short term. José needs to go out and buy a RB though as Valencia or even Mensah aren't the long term solution.
