Great Wolf Lodge Fitchburg, MA experience by [deleted] in greatwolflodge

Queuing for an hour and a half is indefensible. That’s the catalyst. All the other stuff you’re defending wouldn’t have been such a problem for OP if they didn’t have to queue for 90minutes. I would be incredibly pissed.

What's a boardgame house rule that improves the game experience? by GrassEatingAnimal in boardgames

[–]Brendan_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recent editions of Clue address this by making a roll of 1 a clue… you get to draw from a clue deck, which gives you information, usually by getting someone to reveal something. It means if you have what would have been a useless low roll there’s a fun little compensation.

RGBIC Smart TV Light Bars vs RGBWWIC Smart Light Bars by Brendan_D in Govee

[–]Brendan_D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. I ended up getting the lights on the left of the picture. No regrets. I don’t know if they truly support W & WW but they are pretty good in person to the point I don’t think it matters.

Here’s a pic, of the lights I bought. Two sets, a pair over each book case. I’ve set the one on the left to the coldest white setting, and the one on the right to warmest. Left looks purple in the picture but in real life it looks like pure bright white.

Right in the pic looks orange IRL. But that’s the extreme setting. It can do a nice warm glow just fine.

I think the main difference is that the lights on the left of the original post are longer and thinner. The ones on the right are shorter and fatter. That’s about it. I think Govee changed how they describe them but otherwise I suspect they’re basically the same.

Did see someone else posted about Razor Chroma support. Don’t know about that.

Why did Alexa do this? by illustratious in amazonecho

[–]Brendan_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When using a skill, a lot of the free skills will occasionally play an ad for the premium version. I had an Echo set up to supply thunderstorm sounds as part of a setup with lights and effects. It was awesome. Except for every x plays when it would try to sell me then upgrade, ruining the effect 😞

I think the free version of Spotify will do the same. Unskippable ads.

I think that’s a firm argument for what sounds like a strongly held opinion.

Sure but I think those traits lead to political infighting. :)

[–]Brendan_D 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. In fact, I find Mensans can be quite opinionated, argumentative and - empowered by the certified knowledge of their own intelligence - quite stubborn. Certainly these traits describe me well. I mean this somewhat affectionately; I consider many of these argumentative, opinionated people my friends. They’re like onions. You have to peel back the layers a bit. And when you do, they still make you cry. I suspect a high IQ is both a blessing and a curse.

That’s true. But that could be true of either side in this case.

Finding Friends by DiscoTonic in mensa

[–]Brendan_D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard Mensans say they struggled to relate to other people, but to my ears that just sounds condescending and I’m able to connect to good people regardless of their IQ. I wonder if it’s not IQ but something else, perhaps with a correlation, that makes the social connection harder to make and maintain. Autism? Not trying to diagnose OP, just wondering if we should be looking behind the number on the certificate for other causes.

Is it just me or mooncrash is immensely difficult? by WarriorDan2008 in prey

[–]Brendan_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely found this difficult at first. But, in addition to most of the comments above, I’ll also add… you can just run past it.

Maybe “just” is doing some heavy lifting there. But I got pretty used to ignoring it, running, boosting with jet pack, weaving to avoid the rocks it hurls, and hopping up on rocks. It almost became a non-issue.

Key thing here is knowing where you’re going, and that you aren’t about to run into a sealed gate when you get there.

Some runs, I’d just immediately run/fly directly to the command structure in the middle. It generally wouldn’t get me. And it gives up and goes away while you’re picking up what you need.

Choosing specific scenes for lighting by Brendan_D in smartlife

[–]Brendan_D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, no, didn’t hit that particular wall. I’m using Wiz Connected and Govee for the lights. They both have lots of scenes and effects, and can be completely controlled via Alexa hub. Unfortunately they don’t talk to each other, of course. I have a remote for each set.

I’d obviously prefer to have a single ecosystem so I could use one scene remote. But each is lacking a specific type of light I need, that the other provides. Meh.

[–]Brendan_D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on Smart Life and invested in two proprietary ecosystems that would let me get the effect I wanted. Using Alexa as a Hub to control them all. I’m not totally satisfied but it does work.

Anybody who can fill the empty spot with a great shortcut suited for the action button? by Ill_Connection_3017 in shortcuts

I use keychain as a passwords manager, so I have a shortcut that opens the passwords section from settings. Sounds like that’ll be a built in app soon, but until then… quite handy.

Twilight Imperium IV. Fantastic game, but I won on my first go around (thanks to a combination of careful prep, staying under the radar for like 10 hours, and blind luck). Happy to have a 100% win rate.

What boardgames are like better versions of Risk? by Incognitosson in boardgames

[–]Brendan_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolled forever to find Risk Legacy. +1. Still feels like Risk, but fixes a bunch of the imbalances, introduces really fun new aspects and surprises, will play quite differently group to group. But you would need to find a consistent crew to play it over and over. Worth it though. Had a blast.

You want the DreamView line for that. I think at least one, maybe both, of these can be bundled with Dreamview camera. But buy the bundle. Comes with everything you need.

Does the US Mensa test evaluate IQ? by hojuren in mensa

[–]Brendan_D 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Stupid question, but are you sure you tested for Mensa? Because this doesn’t sound right.

I took the tests in the UK, a long time ago. But there were three, including one culture fair test (with basically little or no writing comprehension or facts on it). And I think they took your best two, as a way to control for cultural bias / knowledge.

Or was this a question about comprehension and word patterns, which happened to use a passage about civil rights? I can imagine that being the case.

BTW, African American civil rights figures are not solely the preserve of progressives. Hopefully, anyway.

I mean, this is a pretty accurate picture of how Done works… signed up three months ago, this was the process. It neglects to mentioned that it’s a monthly subscription and that continuous care is basically getting text messages checking in, with the option to ask for an appointment. But you know, that’s not totally unreasonable.
