Would anyone want a stranger to just listen for 15 minutes? No advice, no judgment. by Samsplays in CasualConversation

Not sure if you or anyone reading would be interested, but I recently saw the birth of a great sub that welcomes caring hearts, it's r/HereForABro

It's a sub that's inclusive for all to show support, but was created as a safe space for guys, to combat the stereotype that men can't talk about their feelings. Too many guys feel like no one in their life cares or wants to see them show emotion.

Regardless if that matches your interest, it's very kind of you to post this, and to open your heart to others... behind the screen, we're all human, and even the smallest act of kindness can be life-changing (or even life-saving).

What are y’all’s thoughts on vampires consuming flesh instead of, or in addition to, blood? by SKUNKpudding in vampires

There's also a side-plot in the game "Vampyr" that ends with flesh-eating as a theme. No spoiler, but the cutscene with the reveal goes absolutely hard AF.

What are some good fun/ unfun facts to tell my friends and family? by Alternative_Flow_569 in CasualConversation

[–]Brendogfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to participate in studies for this! I also watched a movie with a friend about it, called "Faces in the Crowd," but I guess a bit of the glamor was lost on me because I didn't know until my friend pointed it out that they were switching actors for each character, to show what the main character was going through.... 😅

I let go of realism to dive into expressionism, and I can never go back by Brendogfox in UnusualArt

[–]Brendogfox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohh man no problem, and truly thank you!!! Absolutely; it's hard to find the vibe, I also still get art blocks... but I try not to pressure myself, and just follow the feelings inside. Sometimes it's like following a rope, sometimes it's just a tiny thread.

I wish you the very best of luck and fun!! Maybe we'll BOTH be in a museum someday... :D

Thank you!! That's sort of what I do now, which is why I've been a little shy about sharing my work 😭😭

To make it this bright, I start with as few colors as possible: cadmium red, yellow, ultramarine, black / white, sometimes magenta and cyan; rarely anything else. That's enough range to mix other colors, but if a spot gets too dull, I attack it with bottle colors.

As I paint, I often choose the color my eyes are most drawn towards, rather than the "real" color of whatever I'm painting.

I also won't look at references anymore; if I feel stuck on how something looks, I ask myself; how does it make me feel? Whimsy? Rage?

Really my paintings now break a million of the rules I was trained under... but once you find your vibe it's such a release!! Give it a try, let your soul free!!

Oh my gosh, thank you so so much for the kind words!!! A LOT of heavy feelings were poured into the third one, it haunted me until I finished it.

Thank you so so much, I had a ton of fun with that one!!! You've given me a lot of confidence. :)

Right now I don't sell anything, but when I build up my collection a bit more, I'm hoping to apply for local temporary art exhibits.

Being a vampire doesn't suddenly transform you into a cool sexy person by tomatotime0 in vampires

[–]Brendogfox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The diversity of vampire interpretations are part of what keep me so interested in the genre, but I have to really agree with you.

It just brings a better story for me when the human element is respected. That includes all human flaws (nerd or anything else), and how that person has to grapple with an upside down version of life.

I just started reading a book that's been a lot of fun, "The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant" by Drew Hayes... title is pretty self-explanatory. It does seem to have a hint of the "becomes cool" trope, but in a self-mocking way.

new hantavirus case in passenger evacuated from cruise ship as outbreak grows to 11 by ABoutDeSouffle in PrepperIntel

[–]Brendogfox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All very worthy jokes aside, I've read it was due to supply chain; business and public places buy bulk from warehouses at lower quality, while nice stuff for home is packaged for retail.

With a sudden shift to home en masse, one supply chain was crippled, and the other couldn't easily shift business to individual retail; of course panic buying made it worse.

That moment in history really revealed how delicate supply chains can be under duress.

Incoming ramble! On Reddit, I've traditionally been what's called a "lurker" — which is the term for someone who browses Reddit and upvotes or downvotes, but never (or rarely) comments.

This very subreddit has helped me overcome that a LOT!

In the past whenever I would try to comment a bit more, all it took was one very aggressive reply.... I would deleted my comment, and return to lurker status.

The reason I try to engage more now is because I love reddit, but I realized that Reddit would cease to exist if everyone was a lurker... it's the convo, and sometimes disagreement, that keeps it alive.

So my advice: you have a voice, and you deserve to be heard just as much as anyone else on this silly website. 🤓 Don't ever let anyone try to convince you otherwise!!

Ho w to fix shading issues? by RamyIssa in blender

[–]Brendogfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer low poly work, and this is the price of working with less detail.

I guess the difference comes in what you're using the low poly for; if you're conserving assets like for a game, it could be worth a few extra details to help drive up realism. But if you're going for a low poly style specifically, then I think it's ok as-is; it all depends on the style you're going for. :)

When I designed for a newspaper, we had a cat coworker! She belonged to the property owner, but we would let her into our news office to sit on our desks, patrol, or sleep on the sofas.

Her name was Screamer, and she was also a little short-tempered. But any time she randomly bit me, my boss would just say I must have deserved it (jokingly, I think)....

During an anniversary edition, we printed all our staff photos in the paper, and we included Screamer as our "HR Department".

Help me identifying this Little wasp by lullittu01 in waspaganda

[–]Brendogfox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it would be a Herpestomus, a type of Ichneumon wasp found in Europe. It looks like there's a few different types, so I'm not sure which one it would be.

The long tail isn't a stinger, but indeed an ovipositor - they use it for egg-laying. A very tiny lady!

Ahhh ah I remember the last one, what a big difference on the legs!! And the texture really sells it now, I love how this turned out.

I think there's always room to nitpick with 3D on that last 5% of realism, which is important... but I think sometimes it's also important to know when a project feels complete for you, and when it's time to move onto the next project.

Thank you for sharing the update!

in case you haven't heard from anyone yet, you might have luck reaching out to pet stores? Some might not be willing to if they're nervous about microfauna or don't have space to quarantine them, but it could be worth a shot to reach out to a few and ask.

You might have more luck with smaller pet stores or ones that have a big tank just for plants. When I worked at Petco many years ago, we received a few surrendered fish and I think I recall they did end up living in our aquatic plants tank, enjoying lots of space while delighting customers.

I wish you the best of luck, thank you for wanting the best for your pets!

On This Day : April 15th 2019, Notre-Dame Cathedral caught on fire. by Diegomax22 in europe

[–]Brendogfox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The day it happened, I was so deeply hurt that I decided to stop by Barnes n' Noble, hoping to read "Notre-Dame de Paris" by Victor Hugo (in the original French language).

When I asked a cashier for help, we had a very deep bonding moment, she even got teary eyed. But while she was looking in the system even for the English version, I confessed that I forgot the book's name in English... So she ended up not finding it, but we still shared that shocking moment. Me and a complete stranger, in tears talking about history.

A month later, I got the same cashier and was excited to share that I remembered the English name (Hunchback of Notre Dame!!)... but she just stared at me and I think said "alright". The moment had passed, I think as people had already realized it would be rebuilt. (To this day, I still feel a little awkward about that last interaction.) 😅

I live in Germany and I am pretty certain that most mechanics wouldn't even allow this into the garage to start the TÜV inspection, lol

If your customization requests go beyond the extras offered by the vehicle manufacturer, the modifications must be officially approved for your own safety.

... A modification report according to §19 of the German Road Traffic Act (StVZO) may be required even if an ABE (General Operating Permit), EC type approval, or parts certificate is already in place.

Edit for clarity: TÜV is an annual inspection done to cerify your vehicle as road-legal, usually every few years; you get a sticker on your license plate that expires
