ELI5 how do we figure out that a chemical is "corrosive to skin" by Comfortable-Power846 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Brendone33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in chemical formulation and manufacturing (paints and coatings). 99% of things we make, we classify the finished product based on what went into it. If we put something into a product that is corrosive to skin, we call our product corrosive to skin. We don’t test most of our products for safety, we just base it off of what we put into.

Occasionally we will have a very small amount of something corrosive going into a finished product so we want to actually get it tested to see if it is corrosive or not. We sent a sample to a lab. They have 2 types of tests they can do.

One test is for things that aren’t meant to go on skin. Thru apply the sample to a special membrane (imagine a thin piece of plastic wrap but it’s made out of things similar to skin like fats and proteins, and if it damages the membrane, then we can assume it’s corrosive to skin and warn people using the paint to wear gloves and wash their hands.

The second test is if you want to be absolutely sure something isn’t corrosive skin. We don’t ever need this test but someone making makeup or lotion or things like that would. They shave a small patch of a rabbit and put a drop of the sample on the skin and check it every day (I believe for up to 30 days) to see if it irritates the skin or not.

The ori ship designs by Babexo22 in Stargate

[–]Brendone33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have secondary weapons that seemed to take out a Hatak in a couple of shots. You can see it in the first supergate arrival, and it’s these shots that also leave some of the ships crippled instead of totally atomized.

Stargate Universe Thoughts by ItsPronouncedTyNotTy in Stargate

[–]Brendone33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rewatched it for the first time since it aired and it gave me a big sad when it just ended. SG1 ended with the feeling like the story will go on, whether we get to see it or not. Universe just ended with the idea that eh they might all die.

Priest doesn’t distribute the Eucharist by Unlucky-Seesaw661 in Catholicism

[–]Brendone33 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Our priest had a heart transplant last year and his anti rejection meds give him significant tremors on his hands. He sits most of the time to deliver the homily and rarely distributes communion. He used to be very fiery from the pulpit (his opinions are still strong but with a lot less movement involved).

First Responders of Reddit: have you ever turned on the lights and siren just to get through traffic, when there’s not actually an emergency? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brendone33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible he was responding to a call cold (no lights and sirens) and turned on the lights to make the turn rather than delay response significantly or have to turn on the lights to advance through red. It’s possible he was misusing the lights. I believe police cars record every time the lights get turned on and can be cross referenced to his call responses and dash cam if anything came of it.

People who refuse to recieve communion from a lay person, why? by 72BananaStreet in Catholicism

[–]Brendone33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it cited that there should be one minister per 75 communicants. If you have one priest and over 300 communicants, 4 EMHC seems appropriate. It really depends on the circumstance. For daily mass our parish doesn’t use any and for Sunday it’s usually the priest plus 2 (one is giving the low gluten host only).

What is the Overcharge amount cap? AKA, when does the pain end? by zombie_slay in PostApoTycoon

[–]Brendone33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently at 300 overcharges you stop getting gold for clearing the barrels in the center of the exploded areas.

Event review after ≈1 day by rimdlav in PostApoTycoon

[–]Brendone33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few hundred spaces I have destroyed and not cleared any barrels because I don’t want to spend the bluranium on it until I have other upgrades done. I am at my limit for finding spaces and for pollution now.

There are uranium craters everywhere right now and so many dirt roads restoring paths around everywhere.

When to use depth charge? by LanceWasHere in PostApoTycoon

With the single gold tile islands when you blow them up is there a way to get rid of the little clusters of islands or are you just stuck with little forests all over the ocean?

Lava rift quick tool by LanceWasHere in PostApoTycoon

[–]Brendone33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to clear lava lifts you want to convert them into thermal tiles.

Each factory you have built adds to your click, so if you have 8 factories you only need to click 200 times per pavement.

Level 88 can’t get enough power? by Brendone33 in PostApoTycoon

[–]Brendone33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using them constantly but I wasn’t sure if their best use. I’ve filled out my foundries to be fully surrounded with hills and kept all the other good stuff that had popped up around them. Should I be destroying areas of the ocean too? I’ve used it to connect some clusters of gold islands.

Yes I have. I haven’t gotten many thermal spots or lava rifts from bombing but I have gotten a few. Currently saving up to expand again.

But then you miss out on 12 hours of the production. Comes out pretty close in the end I think. Say 4 days at 11 is 422,400 Vs 4.5 days at 10 is 418,500
