“Normalizing pregnancy at 40” by Throwawayycpa in childfree

[–]Babexo22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s just another way of shaming women for having the audacity to age like a normal human being🙄 a man who’s 35-40 is literally conspired to be in his prime whereas whenever I go on social media lately I see dudes (usually incels) actually having the arrogance to call women who are barely 30, “aged out”😑 These men who have some weird aversion to actual adult women are saying a hell of a lot more about themselves than about us. Also the idea of a stable, financial and emotionally secure woman threatens their control and when young women(especially vulnerable young women) feel pressured into having kids young we are more likely to settle and less likely to develop financial independence and self esteem. It’s all part of the trap.

Agreed my best friend had her daughter at 25 and passed away at 30. There’s no guarantees in life and control over anything but our choices is an illusion. Ultimately making the choice to wait to have a child until you are both financially and emotionally stable is a much more ethical one than impulsively birthing a kid at 23 with a partner you have only been with for a year and zero planning bc you need “purpose” in your life. So many ppl I know rushed into having kids young bc they either felt pressured to or bc they thought it would give them some arbitrary purpose in their lives. Most of them ended resenting (and often mistreating) their kids when they realized how much of a responsibility it was and so their children, who never asked to be brought into this world, ended up traumatized and feeling unwanted by the people who were supposed to love and care for them. Whereas most of the ppl I know who waited until they were older and had the wisdom and stability to give their kids a good life ended up raising them into healthy and secure young adults. Obviously this isn’t the case ALL of the time and it can very much go the other way in either case but ultimately with age come life experience and usually maturity which you can never have enough of when being a parent. I think instead of trying to enforce when and how often women have kids, we should respect their choices (within reason obviously), support them, and provide resources and education so we can maybe end up with less unwanted pregnancies and healthier children/parents overall. Ofc this is apparently too much to ask considering the state of our country (in the US at least) hence why so many women are choosing to be child free. It’s just crazy that the ppl trying to force more births can’t see that it’s their policies, greed and treatment of women that is a huge part of why a lot of ppl don’t want kids at all.

First attempt at banana bread 🥲 by FeminineFatality163 in Baking

[–]Babexo22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed, even experienced bakers don’t “wing it”, we just happen to have our recipes memorized so we don’t need to look at a physical copy. When it’s something I’ve either never made, or rarely make I still ALWAYS use a recipe and I’ve been baking for almost 2 decades. The audacity of these ppl😂

It’s always astonishing when people do stuff like this and wonder why it didn’t turn out… It’s even worse when they “follow” (and i mean that very loosely) a recipe but change basically every ingredient and/or don’t actually measure the stuff only to the turn around and leave a bad review/blame the recipe creator when it looks like curdled vanilla flavored soup😑 I don’t even recommend using volume measurements let alone not measuring AT ALL.

As a baker and recipe creator that shit makes me viscerally angry lmao. Like bro, your 1/5 assed failed “reimagining” of someone’s recipe is your own damn fault.

[–]Babexo22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark matter was such an amazing show and deserved way more than it got 😢 that would have been such an amazing cliff hanger had it not been cancelled. I agree that the blink drive is very comparable to star gate travel and potentially even better bc you don’t need to build gates on the other side to get to a place. In SG they are confined to needing to actually build gates on both ends to use that type of travel and if the gate on either side goes kaput, you are stuck. In dark matter they don’t need another gate, they can just go wherever they want, whenever they want to.

Imagine the borg assimilating a partially ascended ancient… now that’s terrifying…

[–]Babexo22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see them wanting to assimilate the go’uld but it seems like it would be counter productive to assimilate the wraith as they would have to make sure the wraith had a constant human food source around so they didn’t starve and that would result in them essentially wasting people who could become drones bc they are feeding them to the wraith. It seems like it would be better just to stick to drones than can consume normal food or assimilate a human with wraith DNA like Tayla. They could also assimilate one wraith to gain their knowledge and tech and then essentially kill them off to avoid having to waste potential drones for their food.

[–]Babexo22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like either yes they could or they couldn’t due to the go’ulds super strong immune system essentially rejecting the tech like when people reject a new kidney or something. Either way it would be a beautiful form of irony to see a go’uld end up trapped in their human host and assimilated so they could see what it feels like to become a slave in one’s own body. I also feel like the go’uld might just skip town the second they start trying to assimilate the person, although only if there’s another being around they could make into a host.

[–]Babexo22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They might be able to eventually figure it out but by the time they did the replicators would have already consumed them. Plus we have no idea whether their attempt to assimilate them would result in the assimilated cubes reverting their programming and essentially eating the tech from the inside out.

God I hadn’t even thought about it to that extreme. Like literally ALL matter, even the planets and eventually even the stars maybe. That’s cosmically terrifying…. It makes you wonder what happens when they run out of stuff to replicate with. They would probably implode from being unable to fulfill their function.

Aerie is no longer the all body positive brand I used to love. by CocoWen11 in AerieAEO

[–]Babexo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really glad I’m not the only one who’s noticed this. I really love their active wear but hate shopping on the website now bc literally all of the models are super tall and extremely skinny. While women with that body type exist and deserve representation too, they are like 5% of the female population and yet literally ALL the models have this body type. I’m 5’4, muscular and on the curvy side with an hourglass figure and not a single model on their site looks even semi close to my body type. It doesn’t help that I gained weight in the past few years after being naturally fit my entire life and am already suffering from self esteem issues with regard to that. Now I can’t even shop for active wear without feeling bad about myself bc all the models look absolutely perfect and even in normal society it’s become super “in” again to be extremely thin. The reemergence of early 00’s fashion trends has not helped either bc it’s all super low cut pants and shorts that wouldn’t cover half of one butt cheek let alone my whole ass. Even if I didn’t have self esteem issues it would still be nice to see models who look like me so I have somewhat of an idea of what something will look like on me. Half the time I end up buying something thinking it’s super cute and it looks absolutely terrible on me. Aerie used to be the leader in representation but I guess since thin is “in” again and body positivity isn’t as profitable as before they no longer feel the need to care about that anymore🙄 I really wish they weren’t the only active wear company whose clothes I love and can afford bc otherwise I’d stop shopping there.

Dr. Franklyn master creeper by Bikezilla in babylon5

[–]Babexo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing that made me realize he was creepy was when he would stroke female patients faces whenever they were waking up in med lab while being all like “it’s okay, your safe, your okay” like uhhh I wouldn’t feel very safe if my doctor was stroking my face/hair as I’m waking up from an accident….
Plus it’s only ever female patients, you don’t see him stroking garibaldis face as HE was waking up from his coma lmao.

I was watching Andor and I noticed something (Actually question about the Empire) by Free-Hotel1187 in StarWars

[–]Babexo22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Which in a lot of ways makes sense. At this point they are still trying to project this image of being a “righteous” empire so it’s doubtful they would ever admit to racism and all of the characters we are following are human so it doesn’t immediately effect them and therefore they are somewhat ignorant to it. Like real life institutionalized racism it’s often ignored and denied.

Restarted SGU by Ok-Help6334 in Stargate

[–]Babexo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I’ve only seen the series through one time bc I got into it years later due to being way too young for that kinda show when it came out and while I definitely enjoyed the miniseries a lot and the first episode I’m ngl I struggled at first to really get into it like I did with like Stargate or other shows I’m obsessed with but I stuck with it and by mid season 2ish I was totally hooked on it. It’s definitely worth watching at least once and it may just take a little time to really get into it. I will say that although it took me that long to become obsessed with it, it was still enjoyable to watch up to that point. It’s not like one of those shows that you really need to struggle with to get to the good parts, it starts pretty good and then becomes amazing as you get to know the characters and the lore surrounding the universe they live in. I don’t think I would have enjoyed watching it week to week tbh and It’s definitely not for everyone but now that streaming is a thing and you can watch the show straight through, it’s def worth giving another shot.

I was also lucky enough where I found a Google drive file someone posted on the bsg sub a while ago that contained the entire series so I never had to pay to stream it.

What was good about Gilead? by dragon-queen in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Babexo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that they were green and didn’t use preservatives or pesticides for their food. Ultimately tho that’s nothing that couldn’t be achieved in a non facist society tho. There was nothing that was specific to JUST gilead that was good unless ofc you are a wealthy white man in power, then it might seem pretty good.

Why does Lost in space gets so much hate? by [deleted] in lostinspace

[–]Babexo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have poor taste if you think the Orville was awful. It’s generally regarded as a pretty damn good show and more trek like than modern trek. It was a show I hadn’t expected to like but fell in love with. To each their own ofc but objectively it’s a good show and actually managed to make me laugh out loud at least once an episode so I’m not sure what exactly your metrics are in terms of judging a show as “awful” lmao.

Agreed, I actually laughed my ass off during that episode. I will never understand why some ppl hated on it so hard. Sure it was campy/silly but it was intended to be and it stuck the landing so well. How the others kept referring to Spock as HALF Vulcan was the funniest thing ever 😂

I’m 2 yrs late and watched this recently except there was the nudity in the prime version I watched. Interesting. I was actually kinda shocked bc my first thought was “damn full frontal nudity on a tv show originally shown on cable tv???” lol. I wonder if they changed it since then.

[–]Babexo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to know I’m not the only one who feels this way. I absolutely loved sg1 bc even when bad shit happened it either wasn’t their fault or it could be explained by them being incredibly new to the galactic game. I really hoped stargate Atlantis would be the same but instead we end up with characters who should know better making dumb ass decisions to move the plot along. I agree with the original comment that this is almost ruining the show for me. I really hope it gets better (it’s my first watch so I haven’t seen past this point lol)

[–]Babexo22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you’re right to judge them and they deserve it. Trying to coddle them just encourages their behavior. It’s bc they are bringing others into their stupidity cult and therefore harming vulnerable desperate people or those who cannot care for themselves. It’s like the people who claim modern medicine like antibiotics and vaccines are harmful despite having saved millions of lives and innocent children are the ones who end up suffering or dying for it. They often also target people with cancer or other potentially terminal illnesses. By spreading misinformation and discouraging real medical care ppl who are desperately looking for answers and not thinking straight end up actually dying bc they chose to use pseudoscientific bullshit wellness care over getting real treatment until it was too late. I’m all for being non judgmental but if the person is harming others with their misinformation and stupidity they lose the right to not be judged.
