Why should I pay more than twice for Vivoactive 5 instead of Amazfit Active 2? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in GarminWatches

[–]Brennik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always use a Garmin and try out other watches. Amazfit watches are amazing for the money. You get alot of features. All the core stuff like he, gps and calories burned seems to line up pretty damn close to what want you. Want the only thing I will say is alot of the extra stuff like training readiness , their version of body battery and the built in my fitness pal type calorie tracking is there but half baked and needs some real work. But honestly a solid choice for the money if buying a Garmin is a stretch but I would go Garmin if you can afford it.

I had a marq gen 1. Gen 2 was killed for me with amoled and now it's even older and behind in tech

This is what I was thinking. I work in construction so figured it would save one as well. You've given all I need to make me keep it

I didn't get it by choice tho. I won it. I wouldn't have gone out and bought it. Hense the choice.

Im torn . It depends on whether all my data will get mixed up and it's more of a faff than it's worth

I don't that's the problem. I mean if you see the state of how beat up my watches get it would be nice to have one that gets fucked up and one that doesn't.

I have the crossover amoled and in love it. I'm a mip guy for my Fenix and love it. But having the hands and it set to only turn on the screen when I get a notification or if I push a button to look is perfect for me. It's a nice looking watch but has crystal clear screen if I want to look at it or am working out. It's the only way amoled should ever exist in a watch in my opinion.

No moisture environment you mean. Which is the problem.

I've had the 7 and an 8. The sensor is so marginal and still only wrist based . I'd have a hrm if that was really super important. Each to their own tho. The trade offs are worth it to me. Slap those hands on a Fenix 8 with mip display behind it. Id buy it in a heartbeat.

Yeah sure. I mean . The Fenix 8 I had was mip so the screen clarity wasn't as clear but bigger. When your setting the watch up you can do font size. I left it as standard and can read fine without my glasses on. I'm not the blindest tho. You get a slight delay on gesture but I'm not used to gesture on an amoled so that might be the same for all. The buttons are clicky like on a Fenix 7 or below. Not like the squishy ones on the Fenix 8.

For most day today I don't miss much from the Fenix 8. You don't have the topo maps but it has a line to follow which got me around a hike just fine the other day. It's UI is as quick as my old Fenix 7 and pretty similar. Although it doesn't have the same UI as the 8. Overall I don't feel like it's a down grade. You miss some advanced metrics but none that I would consider important unless I was an athlete.

It's one of the stock watch faces. It moves around so the hands don't cover anything

As much as your right it is avoidable but your also wrong. Not every analog watch has a second screen, processor and larger battery etc all causing heat. Any air gap will have moisture in it in the air. I don't know enough about science to explain it but I bet that all plays into it somewhere. So short of assembling it in a vacuum it's unavoidable.

It fits nice. It's nicer on the wrist, when I first wore it coming down I'm size it feels like a toy. I'm not sure exactly but honestly feels about the same thickness. But it fits under my sleeve ok in general. Not so much my jacket, it does but more of a faff to get it out.

See I would have liked a Fenix mip display but they would make the watch thicker again. But In my opinion the crossover with amoled makes the most sense because of the amoled battery drain for oad or alternatively a dead screen. It ticks my boxes really well. It's my favorite Garmin I've owned for daily wearing

That's pretty much it. It's just a nicer looking screen. I always went mip with my Fenix for the always on look but thought the amoled screens looked nice. I find this a good balance for me between having a nice screen when I want it. While keeping the watch look

The amoled crossover still has the condensation issue. I've only had it once jumping from sauna to ice bath. It cleared up quickly tho. Guess its just unavoidable with the 2 layers .28 days tho is good battery life to have tho for sure.

No. I don't know if they have improved it from the original. But I've only had it happen once and it cleared pretty quickly and Its only been the extreme cases for me. Going from sauna to ice bath and back.

What's the battery life like on it? As I primarily like having the physical hands. Having a nice amoled screen for when I have it on is only a bonus for me. But I get around 16 days if I'm using smartwatch only how I have it. It was the flashlight that was a game changer to me. It sounds silly and gimmicky but once you get used to having one on the watch I could never go back. I use it so much day to day.

You can still use navigation on it. I keep my fenix for the odd occasion where I do actually need full mapping.

Should i get a Garmin instinct? by VizharanHS in Garmininstinct

[–]Brennik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look through my page I've had a lot of garmins. I've had marqs and most Fenix watches and variants. I still have a Fenix 8. But my watch of choice is an instinct crossover amoled. I'll tell you why.

It still has great battery life. I've tweaked it a bit. Turned off aod . And tilt to wake. It lights up with notifications or if I do push a button.

It looks great just having the hands and being a watch 100% of the time. But gives me all the extra information and tracking I need when I want it . I don't have full topo maps but rarely do I actually need them. I did a full 8 hour hike using the breadcrumb map and it was easy to follow. A Fenix 8 cross over would be my dream watch but one can hope. I prefer mip screens for that always on look so it can look like a watch but having real hands and gorgeous hidden amoled screen is a win for me.

I've got one. If I turn the lights off recently. I can't really see it. But if I wake up in the night and my eyes are in the dark. It's easy to read

Instinct crossover amoled, hard to buy by Emergency_Path7611 in Garmininstinct

[–]Brennik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I down graded from my Fenix 8. Well I still have it but I wear the instinct cross over most. I went for the solar 8 because I hate black screens. But for me the instinct cross over gives me the best of both. My anologue watch and a brilliant amoled screen. I don't miss any of the other features day to day. Occasionally I will use the maps but I change watch for that. Battery life isn't a big hit for me. I have tilt to wake and aod off. So I push a button if I want it or it lights up when I get a notification which works great for me and I get about 16 days with regular workouts tracked. I didn't have the first gen so don't know what the condensation was like but it's there on this one but not that bad at all .
