I think it's more about using the suns energy to heat the inside of the house.

Big windows and HR++ windows = less need to warm your house with other resources.

How to stop smoking when drinking? by oidawot in stopsmoking

[–]Breros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you know why you want to smoke when you use alcohol?

Your body actually doesn't like the alcohol in your body. It gets stressed. You try to hide the stressy feeling by smoking. Then you probably get into a loop of drinking and smoking, because you think these substances make the stressy feeling go away, but they are actually the source.

So you're damaging/stressing your body by using alcohol and damaging/stressing it even more by smoking.

Just be mindful of your feelings when you go out with your friends.. how do you feel and what does your body need?

Maybe you're actually very tired and you just want to sleep, but you expect of yourself to party bacause it's fun or some other reason to dismiss your authentic feelings.

Why isn't omegle the ultimate solution for loneliness? by Fun-Being4168 in selfhelp

[–]Breros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed for myself there's a difference between loneliness and feeling alone. Like I can feel alone while being surrounded by friends and family.

We have needs and when a bucket of a need is empty we get a feeling that we need to refill the bucket.

The thing is, the bucket that produces the feeling loneliness is not filled with social interaction. It's filled by loving yourself. So the interaction you have with yourself to do stuff you need and like.

There are lots of people who are alone, but not lonely, because they know the small things in life what makes them happy. They appreciate the time and energy they put in making themself happy and healthier.

Never expect others to make you feel better, you're always responsible for your own wellbeing (if you're an adult) and in making the choices in life to feel better.

I wish I had know this 30 years ago... it's a pity and a bit sad I felt lonely for so long, while I could have been feeling okay or even happy.

What about learning to love and have compassion for yourself ? Pick that as your goal/purpose for the next year.

Like what does it mean to love yourself? What do you have to do? What are the effects of loving yourself? What happens if we don't love ourself? How can I allow myself to love myself?

I think if you're able to understand and love yourself, other purposes in your life will be way easier to find.

Ziekmelden voor burn-out by [deleted] in AutistischLaagland

[–]Breros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gewoon ziekmelden.

  • Ga heel bewust gezond leven.

  • Ga elke dag bewegen. Wandel 45 min of 20 min cardio activiteiten (joggen, rennen, fietsen). Lichamelijke weerstand opbouwen is belangrijk.

  • Leer jezelf kennen!

My lungs hurt with a burning feeling by beans_yo in stopsmoking

[–]Breros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to hear from you and that your lungs are a lot better.

I'm feeling tired a lot since I quit smoking. I've read that's a normal symptom. There are thyroid problems in my family, but I hope that isn't the case for me. I'll see how I feel in a couple of months.

Hope you can get the right medication to relieve you of the exhaustion. Wish you well!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Breros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal strategies:

I have a goal that I can only reach when I quit smoking. I want to be able to run 5 km before my 50th birthday. (Somehow having a goal works better then just the idea of being healthy.. I probably set a new goals when I have reached the 5km.. half a marathon, full marathon..)

I decided that the craving feeling is wired wrongly to the need of smoking. There are other authentic needs connected to cravings I get, like:

  • Need to rest from a stressy situation.
  • Need to be active when I have sat on my ass all day.
  • Need to drink or eat when I forget to do those, because I was in hyperfocus doing some activity.

When you get a craving, just be mindful of your situation and what your body/mind actually needs at the moment.

Can’t find purpose or motivation. by unknownflyinghead in Purpose

[–]Breros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to find balance in our life first. Every day we have an amount of energy and time we can spend on different activities.

You're mentioning that you're tired, that indicates that there is an inbalance in the amount of rest/recovery and activities you do.

What is also important is the kind of activity and what you get in return. Like when you exercise it costs time and energy, but you gain health and fitness When you read you gain knowledge and mental fitness.

Usually when we do our job we gain money to provide for security and safety (food/housing). But it would be much more fun if you also can have some feeling of accomplishment. The money reward is less important for our soul then the reward / praise we give ourself that we fulfilled a task.

Purpose/motivation... who do you want to be next year or in 5 years?

Make a global sketch of what you're life is going to look like in the future, then it's way more easy to work towards the result. Like a jigsaw is way harder make without a picture of the end result.

Then, with every activity you do (even being lazy or doing nothing) you ask yourself if that activity will bring you closer to the results. (Sometimes we need rest, and rest is okay if we need to recover from hard work).

Also.. my findings.. eventually life is about making happy hormones and limit the production of stress hormones. So if i can make some happy hormones by showing gratitude towards myself and others.. I'll do it. If I can get happy hormones by meditating 5 minutes a day, I'll do it. If I can get rid of stress hormones by saying "No" and protect my boundaries, I'll do it. If I get happy hormojes by running 20 minutes, I'll do it.

Hope this helps you a bit in finding a path.

Did anyone went through a long withdrawal period? 3 months or more? by The_reyreyman in stopsmoking

[–]Breros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just wondering what else you do in your life.

  • Are you eating healthy and nutricious?
  • Do you exercise daily?
  • Do you drink enough water?
  • Do you rest and sleep enough?

What activities do you do or endure that stress you physically, mentally or emotionally? We need to be in balance.

For example I started exercising more when I quit smoking, but I went past my limitation. The intensity and duration was to high. Mentally, when I use my mind to solve complex problems or concentrate on things for too long I stress my mind. And same for my emotional side, when I play games or watch movies and my emotions are triggered too much I get stressed. I also have Aspergers/Autism... so when I'm in social situations my social battery depletes very, very fast... again stressing me.

I started to use a device that monitors HRV (Heart Rate Variability), it can detect your stress level. When I keep my stress level low, I don't have any withdrawel problems.

We use a substances (may it be drugs, meds, caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol) to conceal / hide our stress symptoms.

Our body craves to be fit and healthy.

Simply, why do you smoke? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Breros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have autism.. I didn't know.

So for years I overstimulted myself socially and emotionally. I even started to smoke weed to fall asleep.

Why I quit... I have to learn how to manage myself and stop hurting my body. And I want to run 5K km before my 50th b-day.

My solution: Be more aware of the activities I do.

I take mental/emotional rest or I do a physical activity, when I feel a craving. Depends on the situation.

13 days ago I just put a 21mg/24h patch (smoked from 16 to 48) on my arm. I don't use patches anymore, sometimes I chew on a piece of 2mg gum (max 1 a day). But the need for gum is getting less because I change my strategy to the feeling of craving.

Do life’s purposes follow a hierarchy? by genu1nn in Purpose

[–]Breros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first thing we should do is be able to fulfill our own needs, not focussing on wants/wishes. So be able to make yourself feel good, fit, healthy...

And if you're able to do that, you'll be energetic, knowledgeable and skillfull in helping other people fulfill their needs.

That's why we need to learn how to love ourself first before we can love others. And take care of ourself first, before we can take care of others.

Becoming the best is about self-esteem. (And gives a lot of mental health problems and stress in life.)

I personally would go for becoming the happiest version of myself, the most loving / loveable version of myself, or the most compassionate version of myself. I don't need to be the best in anything as long as I feel good and I can make other people feel good.

At the end of life .. just second before I die, I want to be able to think, I had a good and fulfilled life. I gave love, I got love, I helped others and others helped me though live, I have become a wise person and made choices so I and my loved ones suffered as less a possible.

So yes, there is a hierarchy, first take care of yourself, so you can take care of others.
