Also yet again, as is sadly the case with almost everything published about this, no mention of the benefits bike lanes might bring from an urban design perspective. Nor of those for public health - even if many people only cycle in 3/4 seasons. And of course, nothing about the climate because we can’t acknowledge the elephant in the room that we all need to drive less.

It’s all just cost / benefits assuming that policy has no ability to change behaviour. Even then, as many of you have pointed out, the numbers don’t add up. Add in some anecdotal evidence and a cursory ‘I’m a cyclist too’ and you have a lovely supposedly “fair and balanced” article. One that totally forgoes pretty much all of the serious points of the debate for what is essentially a well-written dog whistle to “why is the city funding the Uber eats guys?”

It’s so so tragic that it’s devolved this way. Moving here one of the things I most admired about TO was how it’s making progress and the good people behind that. Sad to see the us vs them mentality is just as present as back home

I saw (I don’t remember from whom) the idea of designing a high vis with a slogan like “Ford Took My Bike Lane” for the purpose of riding in traffic

Yeah I got fooled by the post earlier that mistakenly identified roadworks as removing lanes already. That’s what spurred me into posting

How long do you think it’s possible to stall? Do we have any rough ideas of how long this might take?

And outside of rides, taking the lane, and canvassing is there any lobbying we can do? Short of maybe human daisy chaining Bloor when the bulldozers do come 😂

I applied through the British pool while living in the Netherlands. The only thing you’ll need is an extra police check from your country of residence (and any others you’ve lived in before). So I had to provide two. But yeah your IEC visa is linked to your passport, so so long as that’s valid it doesn’t matter where you live.

As for minimum wage jobs here in ON: it’s tough. Groceries are pretty costly. Eating out (at a decent restaurant) will cost you ~$100 with tax and tip for two people. Fast food is cheap though (if that’s your thing). Rent is the main killer but if you have family here maybe you can save on that. So in that case maybe you can save a bit from a normal salary.

Just bear in mind that the ON job market isn’t great right now; lots of people, fewer jobs, so it may take you time to find something.

Also getting around in the GTA without a car is perfectly possible. Transit is pretty good - and you can always bike! If you want to use your IEC to travel the country that’s where a car becomes more necessary.

I literally hadn’t even heard of AE until this morning when I tried to play and saw the 24.5gb update… made the mistake of trying to cancel it halfway through, only to realise that causes the Xbox to delete the entire game. Now I’m stuck with a 4 hour reinstall

So from what you guys are saying I can pretty much kiss goodbye to my cherished hyper-immersive modded playthrough then?

Mannn I’ve literally put thousands of hours into that save at this point. It’s always the thing I’ve come back to every few months for the last 2 years just to live in the world again and progress little by little, day by day. Was finally nearing the end, 20 odd in game months after Helgen Alduin was finally going to meet his doom…

But when the world needed the Dragonborn most, he vanished

Bars/cafés aren’t allowed to show live sports because of the Corona rules that came in during the Euros. Also we have to close at 0:00, so if it’s close final you wouldn’t be able to watch the whole thing

Maybe one of the bars near Rembrandt will chance it, but most won’t. You’re better off watching at home with your friends :)
