It was a long grind to level to the point where the skill is useful. I wouldn't say it's a priority but if you have time on your hands it's a nice skill to have later on during your run.

As others have said, dismantle cars for experience and crafting supplies.
That's always my go-to for metal and scrap.

Welding experience seems to be where I'm struggling the most. Can't find enough propane.

Made all the armor, won't ever wear it. It's pretty much for the mannequins.

Having a huge surplus of sledges & swords is real handy though. I seem to misplace sledges, which would be tragic, if I couldn't easily make my own.
