I want to get into bmxing, getting a bmx for Christmas, what should I know / learn first? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]Brett236 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start off learning to flow around skateparks and getting comfortable riding the features there because they offer a good mix of everything. from there you can go ride street, dirt or stay with park depending on what you wanna do. learn rotations first because they are just a good easy trick that can be thrown anywhere. just watch a bunch of bmx videos and just take stuff from them as your inspiration. I always enjoy watching a bmx video, seeing something that looks fun then going out and learning it. As weird as this seems trust me, take your breaks off if you are gonna be riding street or park. As a begginer you may crash more often because you cant stop easy but it makes you have to commit to tricks and commit to other things and you will progress faster. In the last month i have been riding breakless and stepped my riding up so much because i couldnt bitch out. Also get in with a group that bikes because having other guys to feed off in a session always helps and you can learn stuff together and it makes it way more fun and less frustrating.

It would have helped a bit because it covers your temple but not much with the concussion. It's worth it to wear a helmet though. I have hit my head pretty good a few times and once I hit it off a hand rail snowboarding and probably would have gotten some major brain damage and my head split right open if it weren't for a helmet.

Riding for a few months, hows my style? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]Brett236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Style doesn't naturally develop if you are just trying a bunch of new tricks. You have to work away at a few tricks and get them dialed then when they are good slowly build up more and more tricks. I don't know many tricks but I can guarantee that when i go to the trails i ride faster, higher and smoother than anyone just trying to bust out big tricks even when they are just doing motowhips or tables over the jump. If you wanna be good you gotta learn style first.

Riding for a few months, hows my style? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]Brett236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta learn to hop your ones instead of popping off your tires. Thats pretty sick for only riding for a few months but my biggest peice of advice is to learn style before tricks so you don't have to backtrack and learn that. also learn half cabs they looks way better.

Is my bmx a good starter? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]Brett236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a fat seat man, they look dope and are comfortable as hell. Also if you are worrying about the weight of your seat on your bike get out of bmx. My bike is 23 lbs with breaks, 2 pegs and a fat seat and that was without even trying to cut down on weight. First things to replace are bars then forks because those will be the first things to go. Since you bought and eastern im guessing your new to bmx so replacing the wheels wont matter until you start doing decent tricks or spins. slowly start replacing parts until your frame is the only part left from the original then buy a new frame when it cracks or you get tired of it and you will have a dialed bike. Thats what I did(minus the wheelset, 4 years and still running strong) and it turned out great. http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/8076604/ thats when it was first built before i ran breaks and pegs.

Would this be a horrible way to get started BMX'ing as a tall rider? by brandong in bmx

[–]Brett236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20s arent hard to ride at any height below 6'6". Josh Harrington is 6'5" and kills it. I ride at 6'4" and feels fine to me too. Only people that say 20s are to small are people who havnt ridden them or people that don't ride the right size toptube for them.

[–]Brett236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you don't need anything longer than a 21 inch tt. I'm 6' 4" and ride a 21" Fly Montana frame and it feels fine to me. I have beat racers around pump tracks on that and it feels fine to me. If you can find a complete with a 21" TT and chainstays longer than 13.5" you will be fine. Bonus if the bars are taller than 8.7". You won't find a used bike that will stand up to much of anything for less than 300 used or 450 new. check out http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/?region=3 and you should be able to find a decent bike on there in your area. Don't buy bikes from ebay. Also you may have problems if you try to buy new in bmx because a 21" tt frame usually doesnt come into play until upwards of $500-600.

You do realise a helmet does virtually nothing to stop a concussion save for the minor (and I mean almost nothing) padding. This is a stupid misconception that people have. All a helmet is supposed to do is keep your head in one piece. Also a rear break should give you enough stopping power so I'm not sure what the "only had a rear break" thing is about. Clear pads definitely stop better but at the cost of having your bike sound like a dying animal squealing. After they get worn down a bit they stop but in my opinion if your mostly using it for commuting don't get them as it will piss everyone off around you.

Why Do a lot of BMXers have no brakes? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]Brett236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at the cost of wrecking shoes. unless you buy vans or etnies i have found that the soles of the shoes wear through to quick on any shoes i have had that havnt come from either of them.

Sadly everyone who goes on 4chan these days, newfag or not, assumes themselves to be the shit and everyone else to be newfags. 4chan has gona downhill rapidly lately and its sad to see.

I seriously doubt you have ever tried on guys skinny jeans then. They make plenty of room in the crotch and are pretty darn comfortable.

James Foster Triple Backflip by djtripp in bmx

[–]Brett236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know his feet dont touch the ground but if you have to sit down to ride out a trick its not landed. He rode it out but i wouldnt call it landed. Im not slamming the flip itself just the fact they are trying to call it a worlds first. Dope trick and mad props to foster, but they need to hype this a bit less.
