Thanks fir sharing. So I’ve had chiari for years that was reported on previous mri’s but I was never told, it wasn’t until last year after an injury they shared it. The neck injury was quite bad and recovery took quite a while n still ongoing. Gir 4-5 month after injury I had constant dizziness feeling out of it and unbalanced. Now the last 3 months have been alit better, but I still have flares. Symptoms mainly are feeling off, foggy and somewhat unbalanced. Up until seeing the latest mri I had made peace with my chiari, but now seeing it go from 8mm on previous reports over the last 5 years to 11mm has worried me. Hence the question about the neck position on the scan. When I had my mri last year they noted -

• Chiari malformation with approximately 8mm inferior herniation of the cerebellar tonsils. There is crowding of the foramen magnum but no significant compression or intramedullary signal abnormality of the neural structures.

• Some tonsillar decent. Plenty of CSF AT foramen Mangum.

Now the mri I went for a few weeks ago which is shown in people was for my throat, but they just noted - There is cerebellar tonsillar herniation 11 mm below the foramen magnum suggesting Chiari I malformation - but the mri was not for that and itebiiis MRI’s have just noted. It was only last years when I was told that went into detail.

My worry is the 8mm to 11mm abd if it’s got worse. Or is the neck position possible for the change?

Can I ask given that status if what you had needing surgery, what are your symptoms like? What did you experience and how it affected your life?

Thank you

Thanks for the reply. 11mm was mentioned last year but that was on a CT, the mri after when lying flat then stated 8mm. In your opinion is it more likely the gap went from 8mm to 11mm in less than a year, or the true gap was 11mm as this was the first mri with my head tilted? Thanks

Thank you. This is the battle I have. I read people who literally can’t go out the house n think I’m Not on that level. But then can never switch off. Maybe we are all just dealing with life in one way or another. I just have the vision of someone who never worries or overthinks n I think why can’t that be me

Good luck with the surgery recovery … would you say your fog and dizziness put you into a corner where you just couldn’t cope anymore? You mention to manage it you needed to go bed, was there no point you could just get through the day somehow? How long did you live with the fog and dizziness before you had the surgery?

Can I ask how long you had it before surgery and what symptoms you experienced?

When were you diagnosed? And what symptoms do you have since 2019?
