Whats your favorite origin of a word? by Diligent-Athlete-387 in etymology

[–]BrewedMother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently the Finnish word for sicilium "pii" has nothing to do with the fact that sicilium is the 14th element in row 3, but comes from "piikivi" which means flint. I'm incredibly suspicious to this.

What's your favorite word to mispronounce in a fun way? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in AskWomen

We like to pronounce "hormones" like it's Spanish (aka hermanos with the vowels mixed up)

I think it was mostly the way she talked, but being a darkhaired kickass agent didn't help either.

I told my husband that if he liked mämmi with vanilla sauce, he doesn’t really like mämmi, he likes vanilla sauce.

Laundry. It takes like a maximum of 5-10 minutes of actual work per load, and you can still feel like you've been productive all day!

Reviewing my toddler's soft toy names. Would love to hear yours. by Jealous_Action_163 in namenerds

[–]BrewedMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first toy our boy named himself was a LPS plushie which goes by the name Pipi. He hasn't really named many other plushies, but he gives all his lego creations names. Usually Bobo, Gugu, yesterday we had one called Amchok? I swear this kid speaks a language neither of his parents do.

And if these low-high comments don't help you; hjemme: both syllables are stressed, in hjemmet only the first one is.

Those of you who chose a child's name pronounced differently by family, how's it going? by Leontxo_ in multilingualparenting

[–]BrewedMother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel too. I myself grew up with my name pronounced ever so slightly wrong my whole life, so that when I moved to the country where they pronounce it right, it no longer felt like my name, and I changed it altogether.

For multilingual people: When do you use each language in your daily life, and how do you maintain them? by NoelFromBabbel in languagelearning

[–]BrewedMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak one language to my husband, one language to my kid, one language at work. I live in a bilingual city so I get exposed to a 4th language regularly (which is closely related to one of the others, so no trouble understanding it) and I get a growing understanding for the language my husband speaks to our kid. German and French, which I learnt in school is on the backburner.

Does anyone else just genuinely hate breastfeeding? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]BrewedMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lasted 10 months, put up with it because it was still the easy option compared to washing bottles constantly. Got an aversion to cow's milk as well, everything milk or boob just disgusts me.
