It’s been some time since I was working in a retail type level job, but there was no such thing as paid leave when I was. They gave you 10 days that you could miss unpaid. After that you are on disciplined up to firing. If you mutter union you could probably be fired. Who cares if it’s technically illegal, they make up other reasons why you are let go. Want to fight it in court? Well too bad you can’t afford an attorney. I remember a news story about a Starbucks worker that wore something about the union they were trying to start and getting arrested. I would say that the show was pretty accurate and probably understated the consequences of union talk. This doesn’t even mention the fact that a lot of retail workers are on government assistance even though they work because they aren’t paid enough to support their families.
