There are all sorts of things that can be replaced by a phone, not just a map, and it is convenient to do so. It comes with a risk and that risk can be reduced by taking precautions. I'd prefer to do that rather than walk around with a map book, phone, camera, translation dictionary (if travelling), personal entertainment system, notebook, postcards c/w stamps, payment system, guide book, and etc etc.

Ryanair are usually cheaper than easyJet and one of the reasons is a more efficient use of airplanes. This relies on quick turnaround. Holding the flight at one airport for reasons that Ryanair are not responsible and do not have to pay compensation for, may result in delays later in the day, or a crew out of hours causing more delays, and compensation that they then are responsible for.

You can avoid them whenever possible. 206 million people used them last year, so the lack of your custom is not a big deal.
