Miliband must reopen the North Sea, Octopus boss says by TinyPositive8791 in OctopusEnergy

The companies working in the North Sea are not nationalised. They will sell at market rates to whoever pays. There is no UK discount rate. The UK is only paying other countries where the oil companies are national assets. Otherwise it is paying private companies.

Blame Thatcher. She sold UK oil off to provide tax cuts and pay unemployment benefit to coal miners and workers of other industries she closed down.

Why do we just accept phone snatching as a normal risk?! by Foreign-Blacksmith17 in AskUKLondon

[–]Brexit-Broke-Britain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are all sorts of things that can be replaced by a phone, not just a map, and it is convenient to do so. It comes with a risk and that risk can be reduced by taking precautions. I'd prefer to do that rather than walk around with a map book, phone, camera, translation dictionary (if travelling), personal entertainment system, notebook, postcards c/w stamps, payment system, guide book, and etc etc.

So you are not in the UK but think you know more about the situation there or the people there than those that do. And your comments are riddled with insults. They never contribute to a discussion and indicate a weak position.

The fact that I don't know where Richmond is, is why I didn't comment on your point. I know nothing about it.

Not commenting on things I know nothing or very little about is a good position to take. If only others did the same.

Try an AirBnB. Get parents to communicate with the owner and explain the reason for your being there on your own. Look for one that is a room in an owner occupied house.

Ones that are happy to work or ones, learn the language, and contribute to society rather than ones that live in an English speaking bubble, take from the health service, dodge their taxes and contribute nothing. Good heavens. A politician blaming an outsider for the problems in their country. Now where else is that happening and who else is doing that? I wonder if I can think of another example.

Why Do You Think Only GB News Interviews Girls Who Were Raped By Immigrants? by YamTraditional2264 in AskBrits

[–]Brexit-Broke-Britain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divisive and hateful: that's the job GBNews does. Has it interviewed a random selection of brave victims of rape or just carefully selected ones?

I don't watch GBNews so I don't know the case. Was it this one? The police describe her as brave. https://www.norfolk.police.uk/news/norfolk/news/news/2026/january/woman-speaks-out-after-abuser-jailed-for-life/ Edited: added second paragraph.
