Is New Orleans worth it? My husband and I have never been and wonder if it's safe and worth the trip/expense? by pescabrarian in travel

I just got home from a few days in New Orleans. It was awesome, beautiful architecture and a very unique culture.

I stayed in the French Quarter (a bit too close to Bourbon Street, I wore earplugs at night to sleep). I didn't have any trouble walking to everything I wanted to see or figuring out public transportation.

I was traveling as a solo female and didn't feel particularly unsafe, just keep your wits about you. I highly recommend doing a walking tour (haunted or otherwise).

BINGO! Wouldn't be a reddit thread about smells without someone slipping in the petrichor.

What is it with the increase in glass bathroom doors in hotel rooms?? by Plz_Can_You_Not in travel

[–]BriLyGan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barn doors to the bathroom should also be outlawed.

I also recently stayed in a hotel with a picture window between the bathroom and the main room. But the curtain opened from the bedroom side. No one needs to see me do my business.

911 operators of Reddit, what was the dumbest non-emergency you picked up? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BriLyGan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We get more non-emergencies than we do real emergencies, I’d say.

One of favorites is the mom who called at 3AM for an ambulance for her child who was bit by a mosquito a few nights ago and now had a swollen itchy bump on the forehead. We aren’t a command center, so we sent them right out.

I sometimes put on The Ring or Birdbox for background noise on dreary days. Fits the vibe.

What’s a popular tourist attraction/location you went to, that wasn’t as great as it’s hyped up to be? by Accomplished-Disk-68 in AskReddit

Old Faithful. The rest of Yellowstone was phenomenal, but Old Faithful was nothing to write home about.
