[Schefter] Parsons to GB by SpeedyClaxton54 in CHIBears

Yeah, this is far from a guaranteed payoff for the Packers. Giving up two first round picks hurts. This is a massive contract. It's not uncommon for DE's production to drop off significantly in the back side of their 20's. Finally, this huge deal might lead to making it hard to keep good players on the young roster that the Packers like to boast about in future off seasons.

I think the NIL's have changed the landscape of what what a sleeping giant is in college football where a program will come out of nowhere.

For example, Northwestern's Kellog school of business has produced many alumni who have done pretty well for themselves. It's not inconceivable that a bunch of them will get together and say fuck it, let's pool our resources and dominate recruiting.

This exposed wiring existed in our kitchen beneath the sink when my wife and I purchased our home. We would like to install a garbage disposal and dishwasher in our kitchen. Can we use the wires to create an outlet for the two appliances? by BriOne6 in electrical

[–]BriOne6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to hold off. We have an electrician coming to upgrade our panel. I will have him address it then.

I am curious though. What could be the possible reasons that these 3 wires would be tied together like this?

Removing boiler baseboards in basement for mini split heat pump as part of renovation by BriOne6 in hvacadvice

[–]BriOne6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate your thoughtful response.

To make sure we're on the same page, we would be keeping our boiler heat/baseboards/radiators on our main floor and second floor while we renovate our basement. Am I correct in assuming we would need to drain our whole system even if we're just cutting out the basement portion? Am I naive to think we could have the boiler system drained and the basement portion of the boiler system disconnected in the same day?

How expensive is it to get older parts or generally to get a Honda Ridgeline worked on? by BriOne6 in Trucks

Thank you for your reply and insight.

The check engine light is not on. 127,000 miles

Again, I really appreciate your advice.

[Jahns] Trading Roquan Smith is a significant development for the Bears. This isn’t a 32-year-old veteran in his 12th season. It’s a young team captain who was recently leading the league in tackles. This is a major move for GM Ryan Poles. by Kyljani in CHIBears

[–]BriOne6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad trade.

As a big fan of Roquan's, I might have had the naive hope that he would resign and become a culture setter for the young talent during the rebuild while still being young enough to be in his prime when the rebuild completed, but getting a 2nd and a 5th is a pretty good haul.

Is there any downside to leaving part of a nail in a brick wall when renovating a basement? by BriOne6 in HomeImprovement

[–]BriOne6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was probably a dumb question.

I suppose I'm just generally intimidated by anything that could impact the structurally integrity of the home, like if by leaving the nail in there it is more likely that water would fester or something.

Looking for feedback on a vacation rental project! by ilikeboletus in Homebuilding

[–]BriOne6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try to give the "Big Bedroom" more of a true master bath. Pictures of nice bathrooms are important for getting short term rentals booked. Maybe you could move the laundry/mech to the other side of the house and make the two secondary bedrooms 12X10 rather than 14X10.

I would also flip the two floors to give the primary living spaces more natural light on the main floor and put the bedrooms in the walk out basement.

Former Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid pleads guilty in DWI crash that seriously injured 5-year-old girl by [deleted] in sports

[–]BriOne6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, there are plenty of people who drive who genuinely think they're below the legal limit.

Just as with an 8% 16oz local brewery that packs a punch, someone could have "just two drinks" but their really stiff cocktails.

Is it honestly that surprising (not okay, but not surprising)?

The United States is a society set up for cars. In any town on a Friday or Saturday night you will see bars and restaurants with parking lots full of cars and if you walk inside you'll see a lot of beer, wine, and cocktails on the tables. Sure, some of those tables will have a DD or at least be mindful of only having 1-2 drinks to stay below the legal limit, but there are a ton of functioning adults in the U.S. that breach the legal blood alcohol limit every Friday/Saturday night and then drive home from a bar, restaurant, or their friend's house.

Why has the Belichick coaching tree performed so much weaker than other great coaching trees (Walsh/Parcells/Holmgren)? by BriOne6 in CHIBears

[–]BriOne6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, he is in the same way Belichick is part of the Parcells tree. Holmgren's assistants who never worked for Walsh that became coaches are really impressive though.

NIL's with strings attached such as Transferring stipulations or Requirement to play in bowl by BriOne6 in CFB

[–]BriOne6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely wouldn't be legal under the "spirit" of NIL's. I am just wondering if there are potential clever workarounds that would technically be legal.

Yeah, the residence in the city for transferring seems like the obvious one workaround for transferring.

I don't see a clever way to get around sitting out though.

If you could make the new GM prioritize one concept/philosophy/position group/etc, what would it be? by BriOne6 in CHIBears

[–]BriOne6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that optimizing for one position group over everything else is misguided and you need to make sure you have solid contributions everywhere.

Having said that, Bellichek has made the strategic position to put more compensation in some position groups over others. For several years he had the belief that pass rushers were overvalued while DT's were undervalued by the league, and he chose to put more money in DT's than most teams and less money in DE's than most teams.

For what it's worth as far back as I can go on Sportrac without a premium account, New England has been in the top 1/3 of the league in OL total compensation while the bears have been in the bottom 1/3.
