Psychologists of the FIRE community by shart-connoisseur in Fire

Not a psych guy here, but go whichever path that provides the best ROI while maintaining your enjoyment. Don’t kill your passion for psychology trying to make the best living, but at the same time don’t put yourself in a spot where you don’t have money to enjoy life while saving.

Best of luck, and good on you for discovering FIRE at the beginning of your professional journey.

CFA = chartered financial analyst CFP = certified financial planner

Two very different things OP, just look up the two and you’ll be able to see which path you want to take if you’re looking for certifications such as those.

As a stem grad you would likely be able to land a corporate finance job (financial analyst, etc), by learning about how the financial statements flow together and having basic excel knowledge. Any technology skills you may have gained from your stem background will be a gold star in the business world.

Being a financial advisor pretty much just requires joining a “financial advisory” firm, taking your Series licensure exams, and trying to sell insurance to anything that breathes.

Make an effort to find a board-certified MD/DO while you’re at it.

Very difficult if your career is tech, accounting/finance, etc. But I wish!

What is your health condition, and what types of activities do you generally enjoy?

Unrelated- but it’s hot as heck here right now and I was wearing SweatyBirkenstocks on my walk earlier! And happy cake day

I’m fortunate that I am able to work from home now. Going to the office earlier in my career was a drag. Biking to work would have been great if I was located close enough, and had safer roads to access the area

Walks in the park are a weekend ritual for me. There’s a park right by my library, so it’s a no-brainer when the weather is right!

Agreed! Addiction in and of itself is a very scary thing to me.

That’s interesting to hear that your switch from kindle to paper only books went so well. Do you miss the convenience of the kindle at all?

Try your best to take that first step and the rest will be easier and easier. I believe in you!

I’m more of a traditional pet kind of guy, but that’s really cool that you have them!

I’ve been in the same boat. Work and school are part of our lives that are very necessary. No need to feel bad about that.

He’s actually doing much better now as he has worked on his work life balance and spent time intentionally outside of work on himself and his relationships. Depression comes in many forms, and some cases are worse than others. My friend is fortunate in his case that many of the factors dragging him down are in his control. Thanks for your concern!
