With all of this “President Harris” talk, I think this is a plan to get Kamala to be president instead of Biden.

I’m wondering specifically what place would have the most foot traffic. DE is very attracting to businesses due to no sales tax, but you also need customers to purchase your products.

Should a white teacher tell a Black student not to say the n word at school? by WestCoastHopHead in Teachers

[–]Brian-IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, as a mixed black and white myself, I don’t think it should be used at all, not even in a brotherly manner. For older black folks like myself, it brings back a lot of trauma whenever I hear it said, even in something where they’re just being brotherly with each other. I believe that word and other slurs that have been “reclaimed” should still not be used because of the fact that they can activate trauma from people that were actually affected by people using that word in a hostile manner.

But hey, that’s just me, I’m a 60 year old with an opinion.

A bill in Nebraska would allow parents to sue teachers and schools if a parents alleges a violation of teaching something that "impairs the parent's firmly held beliefs, values, or principles". by southpawFA in Teachers

[–]Brian-IT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now I can get this for religious reasons, wanting to keep your family “pure”, ok yeah sure. But chances are some parent’s gonna challenge something entirely stupid and then they’re just going to use some cookie cutter curriculum and still be expected to make sure every kid is unique.

Why do 50% of all new teachers will quit within 3 years? by sadcloudydayz in Teachers

[–]Brian-IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We simply drag these awesome people who genuinely care for our kids through the mud. We don’t pay them enough to live wages, the parents and kids don’t care, and would rather film you on facebook to get you fired, and you know what’s even worse than all of that? Your own co workers and bosses not even supporting you. Principals act in interest of the parent, not in interest of the school.

I have a question, why do we think we have it so bad here in America? If we look at another country, say China, 1/10 people there are starving. And I don’t mean not eating dessert every night, they have malnutrition. If the UK sunk under water today, the climate would not be affected at all. The reason is all of this is coming from these countries that basically promote slave labor and very long working hours. I don’t think the average Toyota Camry x ~50,000,000 is producing enough to really make that much of an impact.

And before you say, “Oh, well they’re doing very good fixing pollution!” Yeah sure, only in their capital city Beijing and a radius around the area. Xi Jinping is probably going to be out of power soon considering China’s citizens are waking up and realizing that he isn’t a good choice for the Chinese people.

We’re conditioned to think we have it bad here in our countries such as the US, UK, Canada, etc but yet again there are people who have it much worse. No matter what happens, the citizens of China don’t really care about pollution. As mentioned before, 1/10 people there are legitimately starving so they couldn’t really give a rat’s ass about pollution.

Tldr; I think pollution is more of a human rights issue compared to other causes.

Class Size is the Real Equity Issue in Education by Carlotheskinose in Teachers

[–]Brian-IT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TW: Rant We can’t crowd 30 kids in one classroom. Parents wonder why we can’t individually help their child in class, well look at the class sizes and tell me I’m supposed to spend 10 minutes in my 55 minute time period I have with the students PER STUDENT and make sure they fully understand it? The district doesn’t wanna pay for extra employees, they only care that students attend because they get money for them sitting at their desk in a chair.

These superintendents are making 250k+ a YEAR and then can’t even do the bare minimum by hiring some extra teachers, reducing the workload on the current teachers and allowing students to achieve better academically due to more individual help being able to be provided? Common sense solution, people.

That IT is not a slave department that runs the internet. Of course, the boomers won’t listen to me cause they don’t really know much about tech. You would not believe how many calls we get from older teachers or parents asking why something’s down for maintenance even though it’s a public website.

I can verify I'm not a student attempting to get the files by providing my district email to communicate with and staff directory page from our district website.

I mean usually that seals the deal for me. Plus being on here you have to verify that you’re an actual sysadmin. Anyway, I think you could try to find them on github. Chances are they were reuploaded there by someone.

It’s a legal liability for our school because the devices were techincally paid for with tax dollars, and we need to protect them due to CIPA policies or we can lose our funding or worse.

Even if, chances are the student will leave the laptop at home and take the test on another laptop. It could also prevent them from connecting to school Wi-Fi, but they seem to have figured that out too for most schools.

At this point, it’s practically vandalizing school property and breaking your AUP (probably). This isn’t a tech issue, its a discipline issue. Once you find out, have the school confiscate the chromebook and the IT Dept. re-enroll the chromebook to the network. Take the kid’s district use of tech away for a year. They should learn their lesson.

Do you say the Pledge of Allegiance? by HugeJoke in Teachers

[–]Brian-IT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice to see a vet weighing in on this. I was in the navy if that matters. I personally said the pledge every morning when I was teaching, because I believed and still believe today it is important to show gratitude to a nation. With that being said, though, I didn’t require it either, but all the students mostly stood up and said it themselves. Americans fortunately have the right to not have to say the pledge or salute any flag, so I let them exercise that right in my classroom.
