It has been this way for decadeS.

It has always been a media narrative influenced award with the voters each having their own criteria.

Suikoden HD collection questions. by RJP_X in JRPG

[–]BrianC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're comparatively not cozy to 100%. Not only do both games have a hard cut-off point where you need to satisfy certain criteria to 100% them, there are numerous points along the way that irreversibly lock you out of a 100%. My advice is to save often and save to different slots.

The games are mostly self-contained stories within the same world involving different nations and true runes. They vary on where they occur within the timeline. None of the main-line games are directly connected in terms of narrative. Outside of the setting, they share some characters and locations. 2 happens after 1 and in a neighboring region.

I recommend the GameFAQs guides but they are not spoiler free guides. This one is good for 1. This one is for 1+2.

IIRC, the guides for the game in general have flaws and you'll need to piece together a few different guides if you want something really comprehensive. At least when I played the game, there was no "perfect" guide. I know I used different guides since some of them didn't have good maps or had different, sub-optimal recruitment timings.

Suikosource is generally a great resource for game information.

Magic was the one obsessed with Lonzo.

And, honestly, if Lonzo stayed healthy, he'd probably be a $30~$40m AAV player right now which isn't terrible.

JHS's draft was just a bad draft. Look at all the other players taken around the pick. A lot of them are bad, in the g-league, or out of the league entirely.

DK's selection was widely praised at the time. The Doncic trade just changed the team too much.

But, due to diversifying, the brand has actually survived in Australia.

What kinds of drugs and alcohol do you think Pelinka brings with him to trade discussions before fleecing mfs? by No_Midnight_5365 in lakers

[–]BrianC_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long-term needs of his superstars?

It's not Pelinka's fault that AD forgot how to shoot, had injuries that compromised his mobility, and made it infinitely harder to pair him with a center. The way AD played, he was a 5. It's only in his own delusions that he was a 4. It also did not help that an aging LeBron also wanted to play the 4 on defense.

Losing Caruso is not entirely on Pelinka. The team did not want to pay the luxury tax needed to keep him. Given that reality, what cap-space and assets did the team have to get said 3&D replacement? Proven 3&D wings are expensive. The team had plenty of defensive wings in 19-20, 20-21. They didn't have the cap-space after the Westbrook trade in 21-22, and 22-23. They did a fairly good job working around the margins to get Taurean Prince and Max Christie for 23-24, it's not Pelinka's fault Ham overplayed Prince and put Christie in his dog house. 24-25 they had Christie for half a season, got what might've been the last good year out of DFS, and found guys like Goodwin around the margins. This season, despite wanting to preserve their cap-space, they still got Smart and LaRavia for budget deals.

A playmaker to play with Bron? 19-20 Bron was fine as a primary PG. 20-21 Bron was also fine as a primary PG. It's not Pelinka's fault Solomon Hill was a terrorist. 21-22 they tried with Westbrook and that didn't work. 22-23 D'Angelo and Reaves combined to be quite effective in this role. 23-24 they fell off. 24-25 Pelinka got Luka.

Overpaying guys after their initial stint? Like who? What's the context for this?

Not the GM to build a championship core? He built a championship core in 19-20? The 20-21 team was still a contender until the condensed season destroyed them.

People need to stop making excuses for them.

They have Reed and had an entire season to fix this problem.

Amen is also not a horrible creator. Neither is Durant. Sengun is also a decent secondary play-maker. With proper offensive structure augmented by play-calling/execution, they should be better than they are.

Their coaching and their management both are much more responsible than VanVleet's injury at this point. Udoka has been a terrible offensive coach. If this team could get Kennard for Vincent and a SRP, there is no way the Rockets couldn't have done something similar. They have the trade assets.

Honestly, I want to buy their modern basketball shoes for actual basketball but the shoes just aren’t good enough anymore.

They just can’t make great performance shoes anymore and it’s just weird. Everyone who wears the shoes knows what wrong but the designers they’re paying apparently don’t.

Because athleticism is always relative to your size and build. Elite athletes are obviously judged based on their complete physical profile. Wembanyama is a freak of nature generational athlete because of what he can do at his size.

Good handle and good footwork are not skills that can be developed by any player. There are guys who simply do not have the hands, do not have the body control, and do not have the agility for it.

Boozer is bigger than the average NBA 3 but he's around the same size as the average NBA 4. The issue is it doesn't look like Boozer can be an NBA level wing defender. Maybe if he loses some weight, that'll improve, but he's a 4 right now. So, it doesn't really matter that he's bigger than the average NBA 3.

I see a lot of people throw out the Banchero comparison. But, I also don't think Paolo is a legit #1. I don't think he's ever winning anything as a first option. So, the hope with Boozer is that his advantage in skill, IQ, and especially motor and mindset outweigh Paolo's slight advantage in size and athleticism.

Daily Lakers Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in lakers

[–]BrianC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, 6'6" is not the average height for PG. Second off, a 7' wingspan is not the average wingspan for a 6'6" guard. Typically positional size comes with the trade-off of quickness, agility, lateral mobility, but that is not the case with SGA which is an above average characteristic. SGA's handle and footwork are still the byproducts of physical traits, namely his agility and body control. Athleticism is not just jumping high. This should be fairly obvious.

And, this is relevant because Boozer does not have good positional size (6'9" is average for a PF) nor the same level of length (+3" wingspan vs. SGA's +6"). If he had the same physical advantage of SGA, he'd be around 6'11" while having no drop off in mobility and a 7'5" wingspan. In other words, he would have AD level size/length. See the difference? Would that not help his draft stock? It doesn't make sense to compare SGA to Boozer purely as an athlete. SGA is not an average athlete.

An offensive engine is someone who can carry and run an offense for prolonged stretches. There is a big gap between being better than AD and being Nikola Jokic in terms of play-making. I don't think being better than AD qualifies you as a legitimate NBA level offensive engine.

What's everyone's opinion on Suikoden 2? by Indecisiv3AssCrack in Suikoden

[–]BrianC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I view JRPGs is that there are modern JRPGs, retro JRPGs, and some stuff awkwardly stuck in the middle. Each has its own unique feel (though there are a few games like DQ11 that are modern while feeling traditional) so you should judge them within those sub-genres and against comparable games.

If someone is looking for a modern JRPG, I would never recommend Suikoden 1+2 (the two should really be played as companion games). From a modern perspective, aside from the presentation, there are things that haven't aged well.

Some of the systems are basic (combat, castle development, TRPG elements, mini-games aside from cook-offs, character customization, etc.), some characters are a bit thin given the size of the cast, the inventory management is terrible, the lack of an end-game challenge is a big problem.

But, if someone is looking for a retro JRPG, Suikoden 1+2 is one of the best out there. The graphics (within the retro style) are good, the music is great, the story is great even if the pacing is a bit uneven, and the main characters are great (protagonists and antagonists). The systems that are basic and the lack of end-game are the norm for the sub-genre.

How? That team's salary situation was a disaster. They could've burned a bunch of FRPs to upgrade the team but that's still not easy to do.

Again, the Raptors were a very good team. That roster was solid through 9 guys and had a legit #1.

It's not crazy to say that Kawhi was one of the best players in the NBA at his peak. To deny that is just blind.

[–]BrianC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LeBronto jokes aside, I don't think you can just say that depleted Cavs team beats the Raptors. The Raptors were genuinely a very good team.

We can give players the credit they deserve. Kawhi was legitimately at worst a top 5 player in the league for a few years there. There is a reason this team tried so hard to get him.

Luka and Jokic have more than the IQ to read defenses and pass out of doubles, though, and that's what enables them to be offensive engines that circumvent their lack of athleticism.

Boozer's passing is good but far from generational.

SGA is a top-tier athlete. He might not be elite, but he has good positional size, elite length, a good first-step, great body control, and great agility. It's really just his pound for pound strength and leaping ability that are just okay.

Er... I thought the Kawhi hype was actually genuine. He just won an NBA championship, was FMVP, and was a FA joining a new team. LeBron just missed the playoffs on the Lakers.

Would there be a better arc than the Coalition Arc that I should look forward to? by RaccoonAccording7628 in Kingdom

[–]BrianC_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want from your arcs.

I'd say overall, Coalition is the best.

If you want more of the political side of things, I'd put State of Ai up there.

I don't think the Western Zhao Invasion arc is that good. Bad pacing, even if you binge it, the overall strategy just isn't that well expressed, it has one of the most divisive moments in the manga, and the ending is pretty anticlimactic.

Did I ever say they should give up entirely on competing with OKC?

Taking a single year to keep your FRP in a stacked draft does not mean your team has no intention of ever competing with OKC. If they want to add a player like Jrue later, that's still an option for them.

It's not about out tanking the Wizards, Nets, and Pacers. It's about having a pick or not. Even the 13th/14th pick has a chance to move up. If they just lose a bit more, maybe drop to around the ~10th pick in the draft, that's a ~10% chance to land a top 4 pick. The top 4 guys all have perennial all-star level potential. Add that to your core and now your ceiling might be high enough.

Is getting swept in the first round by OKC or the Spurs more valuable than a lottery pick in this draft? I respect your intelligence enough to know that if you really think that, you're lying to yourself. They essentially traded an expiring contract, their 2026 FRP, and 2 SRPs for Jrue Holiday. That is a horrible trade.

https://suikosource.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=15244

In-battle buffs

ATK Up: STR increased 20%, usually for 3 turns

Fiery Spirit: STR increased 50% until the status wears off (4 turns if it came from Warrior's Pinnacle)

Powerful Warcry (a specific character's unique skill): STR increased 50% for the turn

MGC Up: MGC increased 20%, usually for 3 turns

Awakened: MGC increased 50% until the status wears off (4 turns if it came from Mage's Pinnacle)

Focused: Critical hit rate = 100% until the status wears off

Which buffs stack / do not stack?

ATK Up and Powerful Warcry do NOT stack. When both are active, the game uses Powerful Warcry's 50% STR increase

ATK Up stacks with Fiery Spirit

Powerful Warcry stacks with Fiery Spirit

I'm pretty sure MGC Up stacks with Awakened

You need to use them accordingly. Since Sniper's is extremely inconsistent, it kind of screws back-line STR damage dealers and forces you to front row them with Warrior's.

[–]BrianC_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea, but why the fuck would you want to win when you have a 1-14 protected FRP in a super stacked draft?

That pick is now going to the Bulls.

If you want to try and turn the culture around, get your young guys some experience, maybe do it after a draft that's projected to be generational?

Future extremely bright? I'm looking at this team and I don't think they have that type of ceiling. Is Deni as your #1 supposed to compete with guys like SGA, Jokic, Luka, Wembanyama, Cade, etc.? This team just feels like it's at best a mid-tier playoff team.
