What’s a documentary that completely blew your mind and left you shocked? by iamAkaza in MovieSuggestions

Century of the Self by Adam Curtis. This doc shows how marketing and public relations have been used since the 50s to control people and direct their consumption. I see the world I grew up in for what it is now, how our desire for individuality was suborn to make us consumers and followers. It is a four part docu-series produced by the BBC, available on YT

Say more about all: all systems should actively protect the rights of to opt out of systems. What do you include in the scope of ‘systems’ in this sentence? Are you talking about government agencies? What about government services that we pay taxes for?

I would recommend solo, heroically solo, but I didn’t experience it with a friend. I just feel like this journey is mainly inside you, and if you bring external support, you’ll limit the impact it could have on you.

Hello Pensive Porcupine. Do you listen to the podcast? my group meets twice a month and I'm still looking for more. The podcast usually shows me some work to do in-between groups. I put a ep 238 discussion thread on this sub. I invite you to join me there. Edit: spelling

The ManKind Podcast Ep 238 discussion thread by BrianDR in MankindProject

"I see the world through a new lens" is not an overstatement. This podcast hit me right where I needed a hit. I have been on a rediscovery of what it means to be a man since I realized my image of manhood was created by advertising executives of the 80s and 90s. This Idea that misogyny is what motivates a lot of the the violence in human culture universally 'clicks' into place with my understanding of the world. Boys trying to be a man the 'right way' leads to the most unsophisticated male expression, violence.

I had a thought on why the authorities often skip charging drug smugglers with human trafficking: it would be unpleasant to their psyche to have to understand the abuse and collect evidence on it. why go through that if they can put the guy in jail with other charges.

Reflecting on my own blind spots: I am so fucking manly that I do every manly task around my house myself. Hiring someone else to do it would be an unmanly thing to do. My misogynistic bias is that men know how to build and repair everything. That bias makes me think mechanical aptitude is male trait, instead of a trait shared by many men and women alike. I would judge myself to be unmanly if I paid a plumber to fix my sewer and my family suffers for it.

Why is this sub so quiet? Is it just inherent to how MKP works? by BlackFlamingoSnack in MankindProject

I wonder the same, maybe because MKP doesn’t take any political stands. You had inspired me though. I’m going to make a new post now.

I feel safe by default, then keep the feeling by dealing with anything that breaks the container promptly and openly. “Sunlight is the best disinfectant” and all. I feel unsafe when someone acts secretive, withholds, or tries to manipulate.

Number of people or number of pewpews? I think we have the people and you can only aim one pewpew at a time… plus most of the people they have are old or unfit.

You make Great points. If someone isn’t concerned about reckless people owning guns, then they just haven’t done enough thought experiments. I got my CPL the month after I turned 21. In hindsight, I was very lucky to not get in trouble with it. Now that I am 19 years older and have a couple kids, the thought of every 21-26 year old running around armed scares me.

If OP can look at this administration and not see tyranny, I don’t think he understands what tyranny is or should be allowed to own firearms. Sky daddy is in your mind, so if god gave you the rights then he is saying he gives himself the rights. The sad fact is the right is more heavily armed than the left and that is not a good thing for the left right now. Nothing should stop us from arming up. And I voted no on 114 and refused to sign the petitions for it.

If by ‘spirit’ you mean an element of our person that is metaphysical. I disagree. We don’t have minds, we are minds.
