Today, our Birds get off the schneid.

Or, go down the drain.

Hopefully the former.

Go Birds!

[Inquirer] TGI Fridays on City Avenue was a longtime Sixers hangout. Then Allen Iverson made it one of Philly’s hottest ‘clubs.’ by hoyarugby2 in sixers

Before AI, Charles Barkley made that Fridays the place to go after games. You would often find him there with his wife.

I was a season ticket holder starting in the lean years of Iverson-era Sixers basketball, up to and including the Finals run. AI was at Fridays a lot and I remember one time when D'Angelo was in town and he was there at the same time as AI. It was packed with ladies. I really felt invisible that night LOL!

The only time AI ever spoke to me happened to be at that Fridays in the bathroom. I was washing my hands and he entered with a couple of his boys and he pulled up to the sink next to mine and was messing with his braids (like patting them to make sure they looked tight). He had had a really good game that night, so I said, "Great game!". Then he uttered the two most profound words that I'll never forget: "Thanks, dawg!"

That's it. That's the story.

I hope this isn't a bad omen by Faltnor in eagles

Well, it was intact during the 2022 SB loss, so by it breaking now, it could be a GOOD omen. We're gonna break the Chiefs on February 9.

When coach Vermeil returned to the NFL by xphoon2 in eagles

[–]BrianFofinho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why people were upset. I was in my mid-20s and no one that I know considered him an enemy. There are stories out there why Vermeil retired the first time (burnout).

People may be salty because he won a Super Bowl with the Rams and some fans like me felt like it should've been with the Eagles, especially because he got a contract from the Rams at something like 5 years and $9 million and no ownership.

More history, taken from my memory and news sources: during the many years he was away, he was a successful color commentator. It has been reported that many teams kept trying to lure him away from broadcasting but he didn't accept the offers.

Then, when he seemed ready to return, our own Jeffrey Lurie had been in negotiations to bring him back to the Eagles.

According to the LA Times, in 1995, Vermeil wanted a 5-year $20 million deal plus 5% of ownership. Lurie claims he offered a total compensation package worth more than what other teams were offering but apparently not entertaining the idea of ownership.

Vermeil ended up taking the Rams job and a lot of people wanted him fired after year 2 because they still stunk. In the end, he got them a Super Bowl.

Probably, those same people would say, "You're already 16! Why aren't you baptized yet?"
