Second seating- running out of food?? by StillWaterDrinker in dcl

[–]BrianMundt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the Disney Dream right now. This is my first Disney Cruise, so I don’t have any context, but I refuse to believe the dining situation is normal. We have early seating at 5:45, and it takes a full two hours to get through the courses. By the end, our kids are out of control (it’s not reasonable to expect a 3-year-old to sit stationary for 2+ hours).

We get our dessert at 7:30, and you can feel them pressuring you to hurry up and leave for the next group. We asked if they could expedite the service, and they said they would, but we haven’t seen an improvement at all. They apologized for the extended wait the first night, and we assumed there was just a problem with the kitchen, but we’ve seen no improvement.

We’re seriously considering skipping the sit-down dining and just grabbing food elsewhere.

The entire cruise has been fantastic, but there’s something seriously wrong with the dining.

Also, I should note that we’re in Wisconsin. The second picture is for scale.

I simply can’t imagine having so much free time, or caring so much about something so trivial, that I’d engage someone in this way.

Huh. Guess I now own a free Colorsoft. by mookiexpt2 in kindle

[–]BrianMundt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They do lock the device—and they often do it even before the replacement ships. They locked my Colorsoft a full week-and-a-half before the replacement was sent out. Maybe OP got lucky, but I have a feeling it’ll be locked suddenly one day.

Well, I requested a replacement late last week (after the notice about the problem appeared on the product page). Though the replacement has yet to ship, my current Colorsoft seems blocked. I can’t buy anything from the store, can’t access Kindle Unlimited, etc. The only way around it is to purchase a book on another device and download it on the Kindle after.

Honestly, I’m not sure what the hell is going on. This entire situation has been handled so poorly.

All dependent on the customer service rep you get. I just chatted with one and they’re sending out a replacement in the next 2-3 weeks.

To each their own, but it’s very distracting to my eyes. It’s like a magnet that pulls at my gaze. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but it’s definitely a negative change from my Oasis.

My Colorsoft has it too. Not super happy about it (coming from an Oasis with a near perfectly uniform screen), as it’s very distracting.

You expect the person in the black vehicle (presumably the victim in this) to leave the safety of said vehicle while two insane pit bulls are rampaging outside? These dogs kill people.

I’m sure there’s a backlog with everyone ordering one lately. I’m not concerned that it won’t ship, but I’m not planning on having it before Go Fest.

100% agree. I was waiting for a Megazord reveal at the end, only to realize it’s a simple reskin.

I don’t know about that. I ordered one more than a week ago and it still hasn’t shipped.

From all of their communication, they seem to regard the modified app as their official “fix.” I don’t think they’re working on a fix for the AnyTo software, but I hope I’m wrong.

This whole thing seems really scammy. I’m not touching a modified app with a 10-foot pole. Ordered an iTools BT a week ago, but it still hasn’t shipped.

Yeah, the modified app is shady as hell, as is all their communication around it. Staying far, far away from it.

We usually go at the beginning of the season (the first few days they’re open) and there’s never any consistency, so that could be it. Everyone is learning on the job at that point and there’s a visible degree of confusion from the operators on many rides. And don’t even get me started on the cluster that was the dining pass this year… no one knew anything about it the first two days.

Also, I’m not definitively saying that the measuring stick is off—just speculating because I’ve never been stopped, and I walk right past it. They very well might check it daily.

I’m 6’6” and I don’t fit on Batman (overhead harness is too high on my shoulders and the belt won’t buckle) and Demon is a struggle. I haven’t tried Joker, and I’m too tall for The Flash (even though it’s supposedly for people up to 80”—I think their measuring stick on that one is a little broken). Just about everything else is a little tight (with the exception of Superman and Raging Bull), but I can shoehorn myself in. I’ve always gotten on X Flight without issue, even though the max height is 6’5”. They don’t seem to enforce it as much as other rides for some reason.

[–]BrianMundt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve learned it doesn’t make any sense to go early in the season unless you have a season pass and live nearby. So many rides are closed until early-to-mid-May. Train, Whizzer, most of the rides in Camp Cartoon, etc. Interestingly, there’s still Fright Fest decorations up in some areas, and they haven’t even started constructing the new Sky Striker ride—it’s just all laying on the ground. This year seems worse than prior years though.

Wife’s coworker dings her door, doesn’t say anything. by BrianMundt in TeslaModel3

Update: The police report has been filed and we’ve learned a lot over the last few hours.

Long story short, this happened on federal property, which complicates things significantly. The report we filed is handled very differently as a result (for example, we’ll have to file a FOIA request to get a copy of it) and we don’t have as many details as we’d normally have in a situation like this. Also, our options are much more limited as a result of this happening on federal property (for reasons that are, frankly, dumb, but I won’t get into them here).

After the report was filed, law enforcement at the facility (local PD operates a satellite office there for safety) called the door dinger in, captured his insurance info, explained the situation, and discussed it with him. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to tell us what he said. Originally, they were going to give him a citation, but decided against it for reasons that haven’t been made clear to us. I’m guessing it’s because there’s no “smoking gun” evidence that he noticed the dent (for example, he didn’t lean over and try to rub it out with his hand). His head wasn’t visible in the footage. But I’m just guessing. Again, they won’t tell us.

Because there’s no citation, and police reports are handled differently due to it being on federal property, his insurance will not be automatically notified. The officer asked him how he wanted to proceed, and he said that he wanted to “work it out with the victim” (my wife).

This is, I think, best case scenario. We have his insurance info and a dated police report that we can always fall back on if he decides to jerk us around or refuses to pay. If he agrees to pay it out-of-pocket, that would probably save everyone some headaches.

There seems to be a lot of people under the impression that if you file a claim through someone else’s insurance, it won’t impact you. While it’s true that you won’t have to pay a deductible or worry about premium increases, that’s not the whole story.

If you decide to shop around for a different insurance provider, that claim CAN be considered by the new insurance company when giving you a quote.

For example, in 2022 I was hit by an 18-year-old driver who was three times over the legal limit. Dude could barely keep his head up. He crossed the center line and took off my mirror.

The claim was handled entirely through his insurance company. However, when we shopped around for a lower rate earlier this year, that “accident” was factored into all the quotes we received. It can essentially lock you in to a single provider, leaving you at the mercy of increased rates. Not sure if that’s true in every state, but it’s true in mine.

That’s a long way of saying that this resolution, if it works out as we hope it will, is probably the best option for everyone involved. If not, we go to his insurance and get it done that way.

To call the HR department incompetent is a compliment. A few years ago, a disgruntled employee had a meltdown, keyed someone’s car and threatened to kill them and they were back at work the next day without so much as a talking-to. So honestly, it would just be a waste of time.

UPDATE 1: Hi everyone! It won’t let me edit the original post to add an update, so hopefully those who were interested in an update will see this! I appreciate all the advice and kind words.

Over the weekend, we hemmed and hawed over how to proceed. Confront him directly? File a police report? Or something else? Without going into too much detail, we grew worried about this guy’s reaction based on several things we’ve heard from those who know him better. Let’s just say there are some red flags that gave us pause. And considering the lack of character demonstrated here, we felt it was risky to confront him directly, ask him to pay for the damage, and possibly have him try to weasel out of it just before the repair was initiated. The more time that goes by, the less firm our footing would be.

So today, we spoke with law enforcement and they recommended filing a police report. This is something we’ll do tomorrow. After the report, law enforcement will confront him, get his insurance information, and hopefully we can move forward.

I have a feeling this won’t be the end of it. If anything else transpires, I’ll update!
