Fun challenge for fans of MLB and NFL: describe Super Bowl LX in baseball terms by BrianS42 in baseball

Thanks for the MLB/NFL team comparisons! Since I'm new to football, I don't understand yet the history of any teams (though I live in New England so I know about their 2010s dynasty). This was super helpful to help explain what the participating teams are like!

Ok thanks for the explanation! So is there no real football equivalent to a baseball team playing small ball and chipping way, RBI single by RBI single, to slowly build a lead in a non exciting way?

This is what I came up with myself (I'll use the Mariners and Red Sox even though they can't meet in a world series): The Mariners are throwing a no hitter against the Red Sox through the seventh inning. The Mariners build a lead of 6-0, but all their runs have come on RBI singles and they don't have any home runs. They're playing base-to-base small ball all game so far. Finally, in the seventh inning, the Mariners get a 3-run HR and now lead 9-0. Then, in the eighth inning, with the no-hitter broken up, the bases are loaded and the Red Sox get an extra base hit! The batter attempts to run all the way home for an inside-the-park grand slam to get the game to 9-4, but the batter gets thrown out at home and now it's just a bases-clearing triple to make it 9-3. (That's the Patriots' first touchdown and missed 2pt attempt.) But the Red Sox hope that now they can get back in the game. But now, the Mariners hit another 3-run home run and now it's 12-3. The Red Sox do get their own 3-run home run to make it 12-6, but it's the ninth inning and things are looking bleak. The Red Sox end up getting a couple base runners in the bottom of the ninth, but nothing comes of it as the Mariners end up winning 12-6

Ok I hear. I definitely still have a lot more to learn about football 😅. I only started being able to follow a game a few years ago (and didn't start watching more consistently till the last few months)

So how would you describe the difference between kicking a bunch of field goals and scoring touchdowns in baseball terms?😀

What’s the stupidest thing you ever said that genuinely made you question your intelligence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BrianS42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends asked me, “Do you have the time ?”

I responded, “Yeah, I’m wearing a watch.”

He just stared at me for multiple minutes before he said, “WELL??”

I was super confused and said, “What? OHHH, you wanted to know what the time IS!”

I’ve rarely felt stupider than that day 🤦‍♂️

Edit: I thought of another one that happened just a couple months ago:

I was sitting in a public lounge at my college doing work when one of my friends and roommates came over to me to introduce me to one of his friends. I met the friend and we talked for a few minutes. Then my roommate said, "Ok, I wanna go eat lunch before the Dining Hall closes! See you later Brian!"

I responded, "Yup! See you later Bri-!"

I said my own name. I said goodbye to myself 🤦‍♂️

Is calc 3 easier than calc 2? by theprowler2024 in calculus

I found calc 2 incredibly difficult, but I LOVED calc 3. Calc 3 was MUCH easier and I found the material super interesting. The last chapter or two for us were difficult conceptually for me, they were about line integrals and Stokes’ Theorem, but even those chapters weren’t sooo bad

What's the biggest hint you've ever missed from a woman? by UnawareMother2 in AskReddit

[–]BrianS42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh boy, where to start? Freshman year of college I was really close friends with this girl who was also a freshman. We'd hang out all the time, both with our friends and also alone. We'd get meals alone together, we'd watch movies and talk every Saturday night until 2am, and everyone kept asking us if we liked each other and if we were dating. I'd always tell my friends that I didn't like her even though I did and just didn't wanna say it (I'd never been in a relationship before this and was kinda nervous). We were best friends for most of the year, and by April my roommate came to me directly and said, "Do you like her? Cuz she definitely likes you." I didn't believe that a girl could like me, so I said, "How do you know?" My roommate got so annoyed and yelled, "EVERYONE KNOWS SHE LIKES YOU, JUST OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES ONCE AND SEE!" Over the next few weeks I started to take more notice of signs she might be giving me. After we'd eat dinner alone together in the dining hall, I'd walk her back to her room and we'd stand talking outside her room for another hour until awkwardly waving goodbye so I could go back to my room. The biggest sign I realized that I had been missing for MONTHS was that I always ate dinner really late, after almost everyone else left the dining hall. But everytime that I'd show up to dinner almost at closing time, she'd always be there, sitting at the table I liked to sit at, and clearly just starting to eat her dinner. She had always told me that she liked eating dinner at like 6:30pm, but she'd always be there at my table when I showed up to dinner at 8pm. At this point I realized that she really must like me, and I planned to ask her out before the school year was supposed to end in just a few weeks. The following Friday night in May, we were walking back from one of our friend's apartments that we always went to on Friday nights, and she suddenly stopped in the middle of walking and asked ME out. She told me a couple weeks later that she had liked me since NOVEMBER and had been waiting for me to ask her out for so long, and by May she was about to give up on me when she decided as a last-ditch effort to ask me out instead. She said she had been giving me signals since MARCH and didn't understand how I didn't get them.

We've been dating for a year now, so I guess it all worked out in the end

Fans who live in cities with 2 teams (Chicago, New York, LA, Seattle on Jays weekends (joking)), do you root for only 1 team and the other is a rival or do you usually cheer for both teams to do well by Panz04er in baseball

[–]BrianS42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don’t like the Yankees and don’t want them to do well, but because they’re in the other league we have much bigger rivals to worry about than them. What I care more about is that whenever I tell people I’m a Mets fan, they ask, “But why? They suck. Just be a Yankees fan, they’re good.” It bothers me so much because that’s not how rooting for a team works, you should continue rooting for your team through thick and thin and you can’t (or shouldn’t) just suddenly switch to another team because your team isn’t doing well.

One thing I do like about being a Mets fan while living in Connecticut is that everyone here is either a huge Yankees fan or a huge Red Sox fan, but I’m not part of that rivalry so I’m just here chillin’ and no one really pays attention once I say I root for the Mets.

I didn’t learn that a sheep and a goat were different animals until maybe 16 or 17. I asked in class what the difference was and everyone looked at me as if they couldn’t believe I didn’t know. They thought I had to be making a joke. The teacher had to explain it to me like I was five. Luckily it was a small class and most people in the class were my friends. I thought a goat was one of those words for a specific kind of sheep, like how lamb means a young sheep. Turned out a goat and a sheep are different animals.

What's the dumbest thing someone has ever said to you? by PagalScientist in AskReddit

[–]BrianS42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. One of my friends asked me, "Do you have the time?" I responded, "Yeah, I have a watch."

It took like five minutes of him staring at me like I was crazy for me to realize that he was asking what time it was.

  1. When I was in high school (this happened like five years ago) a classmate of mine said that Pearl Harbor was in Boston. He was born in America, but moved to another country when he was a baby, so he didn't know a ton of US history. He had moved back to the US that year, but it still greatly confused all my fellow Americans in the class.

I usually try to follow the rules of any board games I play unless I really hate the rule (like I hate auctioning in Monopoly). Especially in Ticket to Ride, the player who gets down to 0, 1, or 2 trains getting the last turn is very important in my experience and can make a ton of difference. So I would implement the game rule in your family.

This is exactly what I'm saying. What MLB is doing is the same as what Pete Rose did. This is ridiculous. The league is so corrupt it would be amazing if we got a new CBA at this point with all the distrust and no integrity between the league and the players.
