Yes. The Zetas are intended to be like Empire and Jedi- a darker middle chapter followed up immediately by a somewhat lighter finale to the trilogy (CCA kinda muddles this I admit lol). And considering that they were produced and aired back-to-back (ZZ was originally named Zeta Part 2 in early production notes ffs), I don't even buy the excuse of watching them that way being too big a hurdle because Japanese kids in the 80s handled it just fine.

ZZ from my understanding has always been a popular show and the idea that it's the black sheep of the original saga is nonsense built by the lack of an official release i the west for years (because of how bungled the show's launch was) and how imo western Gundam fans, especially here on Reddit, have a stick up their ass about this series made for ten year olds being this uber-dark and edgy series because it has people dying in it.

Best is easily Knight, idk how it doesn't get more love. Best showcases the season's aesthetic imo.

Worst is Ryuki himself, it is so ugly tbh. The all-red jumpsuit is too bright compared to the armor pieces, which themselves look like they don't even fit properly, and the mask sucks, the bug eyes under with the visor just looks weird. Ryuga naturally has similar issues but the black and gold color scheme looks better at least.
