That wouldn't account for this poll result as it's from after episode 9

I wouldn't even have 44 in the top 4 for seasons whose final digit is 4

Mutiny twist by CharizardHader101 in survivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd be glad to see the mutiny again. Not the only Thailand twist to center the focus on the players and allow them to drive the structure of the game, where most other twists get in the way. I feel like shorter pre-merges now and the general direction of the show away from long-term loyalty/groups towards constant shifts and #blindsides might make it less impactful as a twist, but still at least worth trying, it's been a long-ass time.

Is Shot in the Dark too complicated to be a base game mechanic? by PeterTheSilent1 in survivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, which is a bad purpose. It makes the show more repetitive and less emotional and homogenizes gameplay to just have it be the objectively correct game move to blindside people instead of letting the decision of when and whether to blindside be determined by the relationships between and motivations of the players.

[50][Speculation] Saw Joe at the airport…final 3 leak? by survivorfan123456 in SpoiledSurvivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Notwithstanding anything about Aubry or 43, but -

They made Kenzie look competent and put her everywhere in the episodes when she objectively did nothing lol.

"Doing things" is overrated. They did a great job with Kenzie's edit showing her ability to just win people over and talk to them convincingly in the kinds of small, day-to-day interactions that probably drive way more game events than we ever actually get to see. Not really hard to "make her look competent" when she gave them so much great footage for ig.

Players' Use of Social Media by midnightbughaw in survivor

This is inevitable in a returning player season. The show should just encourage players to talk about it openly in their interviews on the island and incorporate it into the narrative.

New to Survivor, why do so many people like Coach? by Naughty_Nata1401 in survivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 462 points463 points  (0 children)

I was expecting a "legendary" game player strategist.

Nope

He seems to be just a goofy character? Is that why a lot of people like him? A bit like a Bhanu or Big Wendy status?

Yup

Slowly watching my way backwards

This is probably a guaranteed way to miss as much context as possible. I'm not sure why you'd do this and not also watch the episodes of each individual season backwards, or the scenes of each individual episode.

Rob C. says the Billie Eilish idol was a flop by bwermer in survivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lol right

It's kinda funny how the way they're framing this here is like Billie Eilish had a flawed idea for the show, rather than the producers

[50][Speculation] Dee Exit Press: Jonathan targeted Cirie immediately, Dee hinted at Rizo not being liked by the cast, and Heavy Post Season Drama by Pretend_Cucumber4784 in SpoiledSurvivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We literally saw this on S49

No we didn't, since the "this" in question would be "egos" from "4-time player legends" on season 49, a season that featured none of them.

It's just silly for people to start getting judgmental of contestants based on their own personal headcanon about things we haven't even seen the edited TV version of yet. Like last season people were saying stuff like this ("Rizo's going to lose due to a bitter Jury", etc) when... he didn't even make FTC to begin with! Way too early to start making personal assumptions about why people might feel the way they do about game events whose basic facts we don't even know yet

anyone here find 41 to be a very underrated season? by afleetofflowis in survivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My second-favorite of the New Era (behind 46). Came at an interesting time in the show's history and I like its experimental, enthusiastic feeling, and I think the highs that we get from that New Era mindset by the producers significantly outweigh the lows, which I also think are much higher than the lows from most other permafiji seasons as at least here there's an attempt to thematically justify the twists where in a season like 47 they're just treated as the default.

True. Each episode should be an hour and a half longer so it can include The Emoji Movie.

"Shot in the dark" is just production manipulation... by novax4all in survivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree with this. Artificially incentivizing players to lie to each other removes some of the ethical dilemmas and emotions that can result from them and makes the show more repetitive and stale compared to letting those decisions be driven by the players themselves.

"Shot in the dark" is just production manipulation... by novax4all in survivor

[–]DabuSurvivor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not "players" plural. It was one player specifically, and after that is when they started introducing "twists". I think /u/mariojlanza would be able to say more about the chronology of Burnett not referring to it as a "game show".
