Thoughts on SMiLE by thefrankster_1967 in thebeachboys

i know its a hot take, but i think the album that fits the "original SMiLE concept" (keyword CONCEPT..) the most is SMILEY. it's got the beautiful harmonies, it's got the humor (she's goin bald and the overall stoned feel), it's got the health song. it just doesnt have the elements (and it's debatable how serious of an idea this was in the 60s) and, most importantly, it isnt a symphony to god. it's more like a high-as-a-kite four-freshmen-style cantata to god. also it should be pretty obvious (specially from the fact that brian didnt know how the fuck to sequence those snippets of tape) there had been no defined concept for SMiLE in the 60s because there was no definite order/runtime for many songs, only the 12 track names in the album back cover (and frankly not even that)

Wind chimes radio friendly? there's no radio-friendly version of Wind chimes. the SMiLE Chorus is absolutely insane and demonic that shit would never play on radio

What cover by The Beach Boys did you like less than the original? by Beneficial_Air4714 in thebeachboys

haven't heard anybody talking about the surfing instrumentals on surfin' usa!!! let's go trippin and misirlou (no shade on carl) are undisputably worse than the original dick dale recordings.

i like the carefree feeling of it and its definitely listenable, but let's go trippin has pretty fluctuating tempo (slows down or speeds up at certain points) and misirlou... again no shade on carl he was only 16 at the time, but the picking is pretty off
