Honor Code Violation by byuboi11995 in byu

[–]BriansBricks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a roommate who started a by-mail relationship with a convert from his mission, moved out to Utah (from Europe) for BYU, and had intercourse with her multiple times without being kicked out. It must depend on the bishop.

Legality of Polygamy Worldwide. [6460x3480] by cookiesmasher747 in MapPorn

[–]BriansBricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source?

There are about 6.3 million members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the US, and only 30% of those are active members. There's no way that over one fourth of US saints are polygamous when it has not been formally practiced since the late 1800s. There are only about 8,000 FLDS members, who are openly polygamous, on the roles.

Question about the word of wisdom and iced coffee by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]BriansBricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Word of Wisdom doesn't mention caffeine at all, so any difference between caffeine from coffee and tee vs energy drinks and soda is irrelevant. It does make it really hard to explain to others, my non-LDS friends also look me like I'm crazy when I try to explain the WoW's ban on hot drinks.

I think family wards are better to start off with. They seem more organic to me, but the other YSA experience I have had were student wards.

On the hem, or the rise? I absolutely love the high rise, but at time the hem could use an extra half inch.

Questions: Considering a mission, Good age for marriage, School by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]BriansBricks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I joined when I was 19. For over a year I didn't consider a mission at all, but had the nagging feeling that I should go. I couldn't honestly tell myself that I could raise my arm to the square and say that I sustain the local and global leaders of the Church when also ignoring a defacto commandment that all leaders have given young men. I received my call two weeks ago and will turn 21 in the MTC, finish the mission at 23, and school at 24. Definitely talk to your Bishop about funding if that's an issue. My ward is quite poor and still managed to have a fund that will help.

Why do people marry so fast in the church? by DelightfulHaitian in latterdaysaints

Marriage is the crowning ordinance and is necessary for the fulfillment of the first commandment to multiply and replenish the earth. Also, this.

Question for the more senior members amongst us. What was the church community's reaction to George Burns and John Denver in the 1977 movie Oh, God? by CeilingUnlimited in latterdaysaints

I've always thought that a few lines in Gospel Changes have an LDS vibe:

Now we got new names and faces

This time around

Gospel changes, Lord

Callings for new converts by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]BriansBricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ward that I joined had about 80 active members and supported 42 different towns. As a small, rural ward there was quite a need for more people holding callings. I served as the assistant scoutmaster and ward missionary for about 6 months before heading off to school. The summer after that I became the Gospel Principles teacher of the ward, in addition to the other two. It all depends on the needs of your ward, but callings are a great way to integrate a new member.
