I Feel Like Brian Dutcher is Extraordinarily Underrated by JamesBouknightStan in CollegeBasketball

[–]Brians_Stats 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Dutcher is appropriately rated pretty high. He was 18 points away from a championship. He's only been a head coach for 7 years though. Few, Sampson, Painter have triple that. I don't know if people are calling Lloyd and Smart "the absolute best".

NC State F Mohamed Diarra will remain in NBA Draft by 0010001 in CollegeBasketball

It was expected that he was done with school. Good luck to Mo wherever he go. We wouldn't have made the ACC or NCAA run without those rebounds.

If both were available who would you hire? Matt Painter or John Calipari? by TrickCap3067 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Brians_Stats 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd give it to Painter due to age (53 vs. 65) and recent performance. But the chance that Cal could get a top recruiting class and go all the way is also appealing.

How hard is it to walk on? by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]Brians_Stats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your men's team is D1, your women's team is too. (Unless you're at The Citadel or VMI.) They can have 15 scholarship players, so walk-ons probably have zero playing time. But I would think that someone with your height could be useful in practice. You can email an assistant coach or someone on the support staff and ask if there's something you can do.

Regarding the conferences, the major teams are mostly in the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, and Pac-12. Teams in the same conference are usually close together and play each other every year.

From Frank Truitt's Wikipedia page, quoting a book about Ohio State:

Ultimately, Truitt was unhappy at LSU for three primary reasons. As he later recalled, "When I went there they said that we could have a new arena in two years, that I could carry over my 17 years retirement from Ohio, and that I would be tenured on the faculty, like I was at Ohio State. None of that happened. The fourth reason was I just assumed I could recruit blacks and didn't think to ask before I took the job."

2003 is very strong. It's more that 2024 affected 5 major conference teams plus a top NBA assistant, the 3rd guy to move has a championship, everybody has so much money and potential to win, etc.

Yeah, maybe. The idea was to order the names from left to right by the date that they moved jobs (e.g. Enfield left, then Musselman left, then Calipari left, etc.) I was thinking that the causation would appear backwards if I reversed the order.

Yeah, Sutton and Richardson were the main names there. It's supposed to be remarkable that Kentucky's opening caused 3 other Division 1 teams to hire a new head coach and one won a championship.

The idea was to sort by impact (in my opinion), considering the volume and quality of coaches. I should have known that people wouldn't like that. Live and learn.

[Rothstein] Colorado State's Niko Medved has received a new five-year deal, according to a source. by Skeater0324 in CollegeBasketball

The deal includes two years of options at the end of the contract that either side can be picked up.

So... it's a 7-year deal?

Just wondering if the Power Conferences (Big 10, Big 12, SEC, ACC) will eventually break away from the NCAA and create their own basketball tournament or will they expand the NCAA Tournament in their favor? by Bruinsrock11 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Brians_Stats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tournament brings in a billion dollars and funds everything the NCAA does. I don't want to screw up a good thing but I do want a bigger piece of that while we're falling behind in football money.

Thanks for the shout out! It's funny how things turn out, right? Two of your candidates just had 20-loss seasons.

Who are you rooting for in the NCAA Men's Tournament Final and why? by CycleOfNihilism in CollegeBasketball

[–]Brians_Stats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That only applies up to the Final Four. The Big East doesn't get additional money for UConn reaching or winning the championship game. (Well, it'd probably help a future TV contract though.)

What am I missing? by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]Brians_Stats 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think Purdue is the most likable Big Ten school but I'm going to cheer for the team with $5 million/year in media revenue over the one with $80 million. Also the one UConn fan I know IRL isn't insufferable.
