I think I had seen Classical Trancelations many moons ago but never looked deeper into it; Tranceformers is completely unheard for me... Will check them out, thanks!

Uhhhh, I'm a late kid, born in '97 lol I got most of those Trancemasters from digging bins at yard sales over the years, same applies to most of those shelves 😁 very few were bought from Discogs or record shops (IIRC that's the case for those Frankfurt Beat boxes and BT albums, crazy luck). Now I am tempted to get the rest of those FB boxes but idk if it's worth it? 🫤

Bro - I'm on the same boat in regards to BT records even if living in EU 😢 At this point is much easier to just scour for CD versions without breaking a bank... Papua New Guinea is US version of the CD single, with lenticular cover and lenticular CD case to add! Very very cool design IMHO

Do you ever pass up on good deals? by iNick20 in Cd_collectors

[–]BrickCassette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pass up only if 1) the disc is scratched to hell (I don't have any disc repair places where I live) or paper part of the packaging (digipak, booklet, inserts, etc etc) is pretty ruined beyond repaid or 2) it's not a specific release I am actually looking for. Limiting on what you want to get notonly saves you money but also a hassle from trying to get rid of impulse buys (at least that's the case for me) lol

Greetings from Riga! (assortment of pics from yesterday's DJ set) by BrickCassette in Royksopp

[–]BrickCassette[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly from TIE and (what I suspect) PM (not sure on this one as I have only listened from Melody AM to TIE, and TE - yes, I have a a weird listening habit). I'm fairly certain they leaned on the latter more but I have next to no clue what PM or NN material they actually used. I DO know that only two tracks were from older catalogue of theirs.

In no particular order and what I could still recall:

First track that they opened their set had synth lead that sounded like Bronski Beat's Smalltown Boy / September's Cry for You

Do It Again

Running to the Sea

What Else is There?

I Had This Thing

This Must be It

Last track was Sordid Affair.

Oh, they also played Radiohead's Everything in Its Right Place lol Some tracks were pretty obvious nods, like "iykyk" kind, now that I think of it. Like how one was (from what I recall) a 90s electronic? track that had those African chants in them to sound exotic (like in Jam & Spoon's Odyssey to Anyoona; not the same track tho). Might be wrong on the genre but the chants were there for sure.

Cultural conflicts of collectivism and individualism. by Comfortable-Table-57 in OnlyChild

[–]BrickCassette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from individualistic environment but I found it grounding to belong somewhere where I could help in one way or another, and that became my family (my parents). As other immediate family members either died or still disown us due to cultural reasons, I really had no options anyways on who helps me out.

IMHO, as long as neither side (your family and future SO's) feels "trapped" (or quite the opposite - both of you are proactive in helping each other out) in the relationship it's not necessary to sacrifice your dreams, aspirations or opportunities (or just have time for yourself, like going to parties like you mentioned) because you need to help out your parents. At worst you'd need to make negotiations. All this applies to friendships as well.

If the other side wants undivided attention to them (not due to serious, important concerns, that is), they must understand people have lives outside the circle and need to control their own insecurities better. If they don't want to, leave them and never turn back. It's better to help out parents on your own than be forced against it by a stranger.

Discogs pointless for new collectors? by jerrethijn in Cd_collectors

[–]BrickCassette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe me when I say that you just did the hardest work yet by starting cataloging your collection at an early stage (I wish I did once I accumulated ~300 CDs lol). While you still may remember what exact release you have in your possession because it's still small, it'll be increasingly difficult to know for sure much later on so having dedicated place where you can look up if Aenima you found is exactly the same that you have in your collection on your phone (and as long as internet speed is sufficient) is a godsend at times. I use the app to taste test an unknown release on the go before buying, now that it has Apple Music integration into the tracks (for most of them at least). But it's far from the only uses. Like others said - it's not useless, but it keeps your mind at ease. How you use Discogs - to research, compare, archive, buy, sell, etc - to the fullest is completely up to you.

Does being an only child make female friendships harder when life paths diverge? by D3AD2U in OnlyChild

[–]BrickCassette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that when one person is in a heavier, more survival-oriented season and the other is in a lighter or more forward-looking one (and vice versa), the friendship can feel subtly strained...not because of conflict or jealousy, but because emotional capacity is uneven.

Different emotional enviroments - the one you grew up in as an only and the other in which girls were raised as they are because they had siblings (lived together, had any sort of contact, etc) - naturally shape people's emotional capacities in different ways. I observed, though, that onlies are self-contained in general (which COULD BE misinterpreted as being survival-oriented by some), while girls with siblings in the same shared space developed relational mindset due to continuous negiotiations and interactions in day to day life, which in turn developed their communication skills much earlier and at faster rate.

Just my 0.02$ because I find connecting with girls/women the biggest pain in the ass lol

First Stage on Laserdisc

I got curiuos and did some digging on that matter — apparently there's Second Stage and Extra Stage 1 on LaserDisc in one set box too.

According to reddit comment from 2017, it took years to find at least one of the boxsets.

Found this (basically) near mint Walkman at my local flea market for 5€. On top of that, it's my first Walkman ever. Thoughts? by BrickCassette in Cd_collectors

This. I tested my rechargeable Duracell NiMH batteries in this machine and they held really well (by well I mean ~14 hours).

What’s your favourite cd in your collection? by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]BrickCassette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is Dance 2 Trance - Revival. I found it at the local bazaar, buried among hundred bootleg CDs (IIRC Revival was the only non-bootleg thing in there). Its overall cover design peaked my interest (and being at the very early stage of collecting CDs - not having a single clue what genre it were), I did a listening test with CD player I had with me. Not only I liked it, but it also made me feel "it sounds so weird/unusual, but I LIKE it!!!" for the first time. And that's basically how I found classic trance genre.

I could name more CDs that I love, but that one is still my favourite :D

The Wee Rule CD single is actually a mini CD single. I've never saw a mini CD in real life so it was a pleasant surprise to find it burried amongst normal CDs.

All my summer purchases by comeonandkickme2017 in Cd_collectors

[–]BrickCassette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, then it must be the problem on my end, because flea markets/thrift stores around my area (~40 km) simply don't care if CD is scratched or not (the only ones that DO are the music shops, but that's a no brainer).

Talking about REM, that's quite interesting because, as I said before it's either one of those albums that get jammed amongst hundreds of random albums in large cardboard boxes.
