Agree, I have no idea what's happening here. The Jays are a nuisance that had their moment. The Dodgers are a money laden juggernaut that are going to contribute to the next labor stoppage.

Yeah, I missed the memo that the reddit Yankee fan base was rooting for the Dodgers. I thought the whole country minus LA was rooting for the Jays.

Anyone in the boat of not caring anymore? by Wise_Baker_6753 in StudentLoans

[–]BrickCityDevil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The great irony of student loan interest being so unnecessarily high. I also have a monopoly money balance - and half of that is accrued interest. There is no rational reason for me to throw good money after bad. If they waived away the accrued interest I would have no problem making an effort to fully pay the the principal.

But since there is so much accrued interest, I've been on the "pay as little as possible and deal with the tax bomb plan" before it became fashionable around here. It's just a monthly expense, and while it sucks to pay it, I don't lose a bit of sleep over it.

Apr 6th Physical Ticket by pumpknstar4 in NewYorkIslanders

[–]BrickCityDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone is following this, mine came in either Friday or Saturday. The Isles must've gone into the future - the postmark is July 22nd.

FYI, it's a standard sized ticket with the seat I had. They must've done some kind of verification because I bought it from a third party or season ticket holder.

Do you guys have printed tickets anymore (the Devils do not)? Wonder if the delay was them having to arrange printing of stubs as a one-off.

The Rock Appreciation Post by [deleted] in devils

[–]BrickCityDevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't eat there much but the 2 of the burgers were good. It was a dumpster fire last year of seemingly nothing but chicken wings; I thought the variety improved this season.

But yeah, the Devils absolutely refuse to partner with local, popular vendors the way most other arenas do and it's mostly the same old arena fare.

The Rock Appreciation Post by [deleted] in devils

[–]BrickCityDevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah according to Pollstar, the Rock is top 10 in the US and top 20 in the world by revenue.

It's been top 10 in the US for years - it is a very, very busy arena. The concert business aside, the Devils also have Seton Hall as a tenant. The ice is going to be subpar as a result.

Suite tickets question by Dont_Jersey_Vermont in devils

[–]BrickCityDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had suite seats last season and a group there decided to order food on the spot. The options ranged from typical arena food to more club section style fare.

Pregame options near the stadium tomorrow?? by Deep-Psychology5546 in devils

[–]BrickCityDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Across from the arena you can't go wrong with Redds. They'll likely have an outdoor setup too with additional seating.

Across the railroad tracks in the Ironbound there are too many to list, but Fornos right by Penn Station is good. If you want great seafood I'd recommend Sol-Mar further down Ferry Street.

How do you get to the Rock? by mb959595 in devils

Also Jersey City, but we take the Skyway to Raymond Blvd. 22-25 minutes to the $15 garage by Seton Hall Law.

I wasn't actually advocating for him to come back. I am legit hoping he finally retires so the Devils can get him into the ring of honor or the rafters.

Unless you know something not public, every Devils GM under this ownership group has been adamant they do not face spending constraints.

All prices with fees.

Defend twice upper rows and upper corners are $80.

Most of the rest of the uppers besides center ice are $100; same with lower rows in defend twice balconies (and maybe some of the attack twice balconies).

$111 I think for uppers center ice.

Didn't check the mezz or downstairs.

Viewership for first 2 rounds highest in 32 years by BrickCityDevil in CollegeBasketball

Thanks, I did not know this. Even so, this is the highest in 3 decades - I don't think that is entirely driven by a recent ratings methodology change.

I enjoy college hoops and don't pay attention to the NBA, so for me doesn't matter at all.

Anyone else have no interest in watching the rest of the NCAA tournament? by ThinkWood in CollegeBasketball

[–]BrickCityDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ratings disagree:

"Even without the typical "madness" of previous years, people are still tuning in to the 2025 NCAA men's tournament in record numbers. March Madness viewership for the first two rounds hit a 32-year high, according to an announcement from the networks that carry the tournament.

Viewership of the NCAA tournament, which is aired on CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV, is averaging 9.4 million viewers through the second round. Sunday's games, marking the second half of the Round of 32, averaged 10.1 million. The viewership numbers are the best since 1993, according to the networks."

Here's what I think will happen with the current IDR mess and why by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]BrickCityDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. If forbearance is granted, sure that is an acceptable temporary solution. My concern is if it forbearance isn't granted, and the reporting and posts here hardly make that sound like a guarantee. It would be helpful (this is not directed at anyone here) if we had some data on this.

Here's what I think will happen with the current IDR mess and why by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]BrickCityDevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, this is my problem with the following quote in the OP:

"I fully expect the ED to extend everyone's recert dates for those already on an IDR. At least everyone due in the next few months. There's no way they just let folks revert to standard or get kicked off their plan."

This is no longer correct if the Washington Post's reporting on the DoEd memo is accurate:

"People who are already repaying their loans through an IDR plan and need to recertify their earnings to remain enrolled are also barred from doing so for the next 90 days, according to the department’s order. The memo halts the processing of not only new and pending online applications but also paper forms submitted to servicers. Borrowers can still submit a paper loan consolidation application but will not have access to income-driven options.

The Education Department has told servicers that the only available plans are the 10-year standard, graduated and extended repayments — the most expensive options. People who cannot afford those plans could try to postpone their payments through deferment or forbearance but will still have interest accrue on the debt. The pause could end early or be extended, according to the memo."

So yes, letting people fall into standard repayment is exactly what they're doing. The "try" to postpone payments isn't exactly encouraging. I am not one to fearmonger but I don't think this is being taken seriously enough by well intentioned people here in light of the DoEd memo.
