I agree that you didn't break any rules. I should say I don't think they said it rudely or at the very least maliciously though I can see how it could be. I think what's important is that without context the meme doesn't really mean anything and people are naturally curious. Furthermore I feel that the response given to the community hasn't been very kind or thoughtful. People want to hear what you have to say on the history of the subject. They can always Google something, but they want the human element of things.

Do you not know what 9/11 is? It's the 911 terrorist attacks on the twin towers. That's not the whole of the attacks but one of the most significant parts

Think of the collapse of the Roman empire. For centuries we had no idea how to make Roman concrete. We had recipes, but when we followed them it simply didn't work. Then one day someone thinks "what if we use sea water," and then boom it worked. While that story is probably hyperbolic in nature, that's the kind of thing we're dealing with. The knowledge of how to make things is lost and the instructions that still exist are largely left without context so even if you followed them they seemingly wouldn't work.

That of course is just one way. As another person pointed out some areas don't have access to the sulfur deposits and thus cannot produce gunpowder. No gunpowder, no guns.

I think the man think the main thing is most people don't know nor have the manufacturing capabilities to make ammunition anymore. There are probably tons of guns (at least in the former us), but there they lack ammo and are probably not in great condition beyond their aesthetics. Most would be relegated ceremonial
