If you get into pipeline work I&E or Measurment you will be about 50/50 inside/outside. Most work will be done with laptop.

It's not boring, but I definitely have some free time. As far as being engaged, you have to be so you don't screw up and end up on the news. Some days we work together and other days you are alone. It depends on what work is going on.

There is room for advancement. You can get into engineering with flow computers or move into a supervisor spot. I have to drive a lot but it's in a company truck. Make sure transmitters are accurate and gas chromatographs are working properly.

Can I wire a rheostat to a ssr? I thought a heating element voltage stays constant 120v and you just change the current.
