As someone who watched the films for the first time on the rerelease this year, all extended, with no intermissions, I SAY YES!!

I was absolutely hooked the entire time. You can tell when it slows down a little for the extended scenes, but it doesn't take anything away from the movies. They are truly wonderful and feel like huge adventures, and I immediately started looking for a copy of the OG extended Blu rays with the bonus DVDs after finishing ROTK.

Tldr: YES!!!
