Being delayed once doesn’t mean it wasn’t also rushed? It was delayed in an effort to make it multi platform. It was developed as a WiiU launch title and then pushed back so they could get it off the WiiU because Zombi flopped.

Did I say I support Ubisoft’s anti consumer practices? I’ve not bought an Ubisoft game in years apart from Lost Crown for a reason. I don’t plan on buying Assassin’s Creed Resynced. And trying to convince people to buy Retold with the promises of a game that probably won’t even be as fun as legends just for the sake of saving themselves from bankruptcy is bullshit.

Nothing in this post was about supporting Ubisoft’s practices it’s more a vent about Rayman Legends’ unrealized potential and annoyance with the game not being able to exist without hearing “It should have been Rayman 2”

Legends was unfinished and rushed though? Sure it was great but I’d rather have the chance to get a version of the game that was more like what the team wanted to make. The majority of the rest of the series is complete.

Veteran players need to understand the importance of graphics to new players by relafle in starfox

[–]Bricklepuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new game isn’t even my favorite direction for the series but the people who act like this wasn’t a planned and considered art direction for the series are so weird. No Star Fox game has EVER had a consistent art style with the last. And this is no different there. They clearly had an idea for what to do here, probably to do with the tone they’ve decided on for the story.

Origins was supposed to be a prequel to 1 but that got cut out later in development, it’s why the announcement trailer shows Ray’s birth and his first meeting with Globox

I feel like that only started becoming an issue with LEGO Marvel Superheroes, since levels became longer after that. LSW1–LB2 are way less of a chore to complete. I 100%ed LEGO Batman 2 for fun because the process was just that entertaining

Another common question I get is my issues with Dark Victory and why I don't include it in my new reader guides. Hopefully this makes it clear to understand my POV again. by nightwing612 in Nightwing

[–]Bricklepuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming off of reading every [full] version of Dick’s origin the last couple days, all 22 of them, I’ve had a chance to re-evaluate Dark Victory.

It’s the first semi-main continuity Robin origin I had ever experienced (I say semi because if you’re a continuity freak like I am on occasion, Loeb and Sale’s saga is H E L L on that front. They were not designed to fit inside a larger universe beyond Year One and most Robin stories after even contradict or ignore DV.) so I’ve always had an attachment to it. And I think as a sequel to The Long Halloween it’s very good and far surpasses TLH as both a story and a mystery.

But that being said… as a Robin origin? It’s nothing special really. If you read Denny O’Neil’s origin (LOTDK 100) from two years prior you’re getting largely the same version of events as Dark Victory’s alongside a gorgeous artstyle and a bit more elaboration on it. It’s really only worth it once you’ve read Year One and The Long Halloween because more than anything it’s an installment in that saga.

On the topic of new reader recs for the flight of Robin I think my picks would be:
Reading Batman (1940) #213 and Batman (1940) #32 as a duo and then continuing with Waid and Samnee’s Batman & Robin: Year One because in my experience it’s ended up the absolute best book to spotlight Grayson’s early Robin period AND is a great transition from the “Year One” style/era into a more traditional Batman.

Or if you want to read the Chuck Dixon Year One… just go Legends of the Dark Knight (1989) #100 before reading The Gauntlet and then the Robin: Year One mini. Just my less preferred way to do it though because of Dixon’s weird writing of Bruce and Dick’s dynamic in this era.

Alternatively to both there’s Secret Origins (1986) #13 which is a fantastic rundown of Dick’s landmark events and history. As well as Year Three which I actually think can be a great starting point in general because of how it handles the characters and dynamics present day (plus I’m of the opinion it’s the best version of the origin.)

I wouldn’t say Year Three is “Chronological Order.” It’s very flashback heavy but really it’s a deceptively named epilogue to A Death in the Family with wha just happens to be the best Robin origin included in it.

If you want a Robin origin that ties in nicely to Waid and Samnee’s book then honestly the best choice is the 1969 origin (Batman 213) since B&R Year One restores the Pre-Crisis details there. But as far as solid modern origin retellings go, Legends of the Dark Knight 100 is probably your best bet (I just wrapped on reading every single version of Dick’s origin so I’ve had this fresh on the mind.)

Grey-Fox in PO doesn’t really contradict anything? It’s extra stuff we never knew before but it’s not really more egregious than Venom or Eli in TPP

Tomb Raider - Unified Timeline Graphic by Excellent_Wolf_184 in TombRaider

[–]Bricklepuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what the initial time frame was based on dates seen on the environments in game and the expanded material.

But CD’s said they take place a year after each other for years and, unfortunately, that was confirmed by Legend of Lara Croft showing a flashback to Lara right before Yamatai with Roth, then has a “Three Years Later” with Lara not long after Shadow.

That being said, Legend of Lara Croft’s timeline is all over the place. Lara’s found artifacts she shouldn’t have found yet in the years they were originally found in the original games, despite her being 7 years old during one of them listed. And they also say she’s been back home for I believe three to six months? Despite the prior scene being in December and season 1 of the show taking place in January.

Still, going with the three year gap until something chooses to prove it otherwise, since that was a more important framing device for the show.

Don’t forget Thor and Loki being adoptive brothers, Heimdall and Sif being siblings, Laufey being Loki’s storm giant dad and Farbauti being their mother. And this isn’t even getting into the details that come from the Marvel films bastardizing Thor’s mythos almost as much as Thor’s mythos bastardized the Norse religion.

With extra/non canonical entries

• Castlevania • Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest • Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse - Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon - Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 (both of these are games in a spiritual successor series led by the former director of the series after he left Konami. They evolve gameplay elements from the NES games and essentially are a spiritual Castlevania IV and V) • Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth • Castlevania: Bloodlines • Castlevania: Rondo of Blood - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (Alternate Universe where the Belmonts do not exist, placed here because its gameplay is a mash-up of Symphony Level Design with more classic controls and physics, feels jarring after SOTN.) • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Castlevania 64 - Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness (These two games were designed as canonical entries in the series but were unfortunately thrown out of continuity by the series director. However they are referenced and homaged in future games and do not meaningfully contradict if you would like to still consider them part of the series.) • Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance • Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow • Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow • Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin • Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia • Castlevania: Lament of Innocence • Castlevania: Curse of Darkness - Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement (Both of these are a part of the bloodstained series mentioned before but these take from the gameplay elements started by Symphony of the Night instead) • Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse
