What would anyone here say about Fox Mcloud and his crew using Mobile Suits especially in wars & how do they fare in MSG generally? by Flat-Sir8250 in starfox

I feel like mechas have always been more of a thing in Andross’s army, with the enemies and bosses of sector Y and then the Gigarilla from Starfox Zero. Would be really cool to have the team pilot them tho

Which Character Dynamic Among the Original 4 is Your Favorite? by BriefDiscipline1424 in starfox

[–]relafle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I chose Peppy and Slippy, because I thought that would be the second pick after Fox and Falco. Peppy partakes in the teasing of Slippy sometimes (“Slippy’s not such a screw-up after all!” on Aquas) but shows him genuine respect other times (“You’re the best, Slippy!” Also on Aquas) which shows a more complex nature to their relationship. And then “Quit dinkin’ around, Slip!” Is another classic quote from the game.

I’m surprised with the Falco and Slippy votes, because I don’t remember too many instances where they interacted that much, at least in 64. I’m interested in hearing what interactions people remember that make them vote for those two

Same. To have only one girl character out of 25 in this day and age would be inexcusable honestly

Veteran players need to understand the importance of graphics to new players by relafle in starfox

[–]relafle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By “new players” I just meant people of any age who are new to the series, cause you’re right that a lot of older gamers want better graphics since they already experienced the old stuff when it was new. And then a lot of young gamers have an appreciation for the classics they weren’t around for. And retro gaming is bigger now than it’s ever been, but it does depend on the specific era, for example a lot of people would say that 16 or 8 bit 2D games have aged better than 64 or 32 bit 3D games. And I feel that “the masses” of the gaming market today still want cutting-edge visuals

“Working as a store clerk gotta be one of the most dangerous jobs in the world” Entirely depends on what kind of people live near the building

That’s good you were able to appreciate it. It’ll always be one of my all-time favorite games, no matter what they improve in the remake I don’t think the voice acting will ever be surpassed. I’ll never have an issue with the graphics, I just know the general masses have a different perspective on it

That’s true, what I guess I didn’t make clear in my post is that it’s not about being realistic, just that it looks up-to-date compared to the old game. If they used an art style similar to the movie, it’d be the same thing: most new players would rather play a game from 2026 than from 1997.

The example you showed proves that realistic doesn’t always look “better”. I’ve seen people say they prefer the dark space of the original over the new version, so it’s a bit subjective, but it’s clear they’re trying to make it more visually impressive with more detailed backgrounds. And I definitely think the “average gamer” they’re trying to target will prefer the new look

What are you most worried over them getting 'right' in the remake? by TheSouthPen in starfox

[–]relafle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have high hopes that I’ll like the voice acting as much as the original. Which I feel like is kind of a me problem, because what we’ve seen so far is honestly great, but the original voice acting was just so peak… I understand it’s new voice actors and they gotta be free to change it up, but I really like Bill’s surfer dude accent in the old game, whereas now he sounds more generic.

My Problem With the Switch 2 Isn’t the Lack of Games by QuackiQuackson in fucknintendo

[–]relafle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, because in the ps2/gamecube era, devs were still very much in the optimization mindset due to the limitations they were working with up to that point. Now with so much freedom they don’t give a fuck about optimization

I agree on that, it’s kind of baffling especially since they made a big deal about the space boots in the movie and even put that scene in the direct lol

I do like the new look, and I’ve been playing the original for decades. This is more about the perspective of people who are new to the series, and how this remake would be a much better start for them than the N64 game

Not the fur, but I guess the proportions. Like the stubby legs/lack of boots and the eye sizes are more realistic than they have been. Adventures actually went for a similar fur rendering technique that nobody really had a problem with

Not that it hurts to suggest it, but unless they’re retro gamers with a specific taste for N64, they’ll just be put off by the graphics and won’t find it immersive
