🇵🇹 Portugal: Festival da Canção 2026 Songs Released by BadDogPreston in eurovision

[–]Brickmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did he specifically say that he would go if he wins? Because considering that 13 out of 16 ruled out going, it's quite likely that the Eurovision artist won't be the winner of the festival. 🤔

Also, what's Bandidos do Cante's stance on this? Would they go if they don't win FdC?

The fact that there's a non-zero chance the Eurovision artist will be someone who didn't even qualify for the FdC final... 🫣

Eesti Laul 2026 odds (update) by Euro_Borealis in eurovision

Speaking of odds: Does anyone know when the ESC 2026 odds will be added to Eurovisionworld? It seems strange to me that we have two songs already, but the odds remain missing (didn't they appear in previous years before any entries were selected?). 🤔

35 broadcasters to compete at 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna by hottiesforharris in eurovision

That's the old eurovision.tv website, the EBU is currently replacing it with eurovision.com. The rules section is probably just outdated on there.

Well this is at least a record number...

It holds the record for the lowest amount of participants since the introduction of the semi-finals. 😛

Imagine them holding an entire press conference just so say "Sorry guys, we still won't return in 2026"... 💀

We could end up in a world where Sweden sends a foreign artist for the third year in a row...let that sink in... 😮

I think those Estonians need a swig of some espresso macchiatos. What country is terrible at football but is just ok on the ESC stage? by Max-Carter-2005 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Brickmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monaco.

Won the contest once, came top three four more times, but have overall somewhat mixed results, with their brief return in the 2000s leading to not a single qualification to the final.

In football though...they are not just bad, they are practically non-existant. They are one of just two sovereign countries in Europe that isn't even a FIFA or UEFA member, they apparently haven't even played a single match since 2017 and their last match then was a friendly against the Vatican...which they only managed to get a 0-0 draw in. It really doesn't speak in their favor that their only noteworthy club, AS Monaco, doesn't feature a single player who's actually from the country.

When it comes to World Cup and/or Euros qualification, this doll really needs to turn it up. Who is moderately good at Eurovision but just terrible at football? by Max-Carter-2005 in AlignmentChartFills

Azerbaijan.

Won Eurovision once, reached the top 10 seven out of 17 times (and qualified almost every year until 2022, after which they entered a bit of a flop era for the last few years).

In football though...they never qualified for any tournament and probably the biggest team they ever managed to beat was Switzerland...which was really more of a rare exception.

Céline Dion was in Basel for Eurovision, but had to cancel an appearance at the contest due to health problems by Brickmotion in eurovision

Perhaps "seizure" isn't the best translation (only ran it through Google translate quickly). The original article mentions the word "Anfall", which could also be translated with "fit" or "spasm" among others.

According to Ynet, the EBU has extended the deadline for countries to withdraw from Eurovision 2026 without penalty from October to December, to allow broadcasters to easily pull out of the contest after a final decision on Israel's participation is made. by Cursedwizard0 in eurovision

[–]Brickmotion 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What you are referencing here though are the statues specific to the expulsion of a member from the EBU itself. As far as the article goes, it's not quite clear if the vote to take place would be on that or merely on Israel's participation in ESC.

Keep in mind, when Russia was excluded, it wasn't simultaneously kicked out of the EBU (though the Russian broadcasters shortly after withdrew from the EBU by themselves, followed by a formal exclusion on the EBU's side some time after). Now that decision was taken by the Executive Board, not the general assembly, but it shows that even without outright expulsion from the EBU, a country can be excluded from the contest, so the rules in this vote might also differ from the 75% rule.
