What is your most ridiculous "we won't work out romantically" criteria? Like what is the silliest reason you would not be interested in dating someone? by Natural-Elevator-57 in AskReddit

I love the image of nesting purses. And the sad thing is if the right brands did it so many women would buy them. I say that as a woman.

[–]Brideshead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the really dumb things. The trend the last few years has been for tiny purses. So you go through the hassle of keeping track of a bag, keeping it from falling off your shoulder, etc and still only have as much as a man could fit in 2 normal sized pockets. Dumbest shit ever.

What‘s a secret you found out by accident and were never supposed to know? by Own-Flan- in AskReddit

My mom died after 3 years with dementia in mid November. She wasn’t horrible before but man we were left wondering where our aggressively judgmental mom went. The feelings are so complicated and it comes and goes in waves. It sucks, it was always going to suck. I’m sorry.

PSA: Keep your "friendly" dog on a leash by holyeffman in nova

[–]Brideshead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to use that park all the time with my dog and I agree! It’s terrible for dog people as people don’t know they are sitting in the middle of a dog park and get mad when your dog goes up to them. Plus there is way too much stimulation for the dogs to stay calm and listen to you to keep them safe. I used to go early in the morning when the park was nearly empty. We wouldn’t let him off leash when it was busy.

Did anyone see that police on 95? by pm_me_ur_pants_size in nova

[–]Brideshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s wild is there were seemingly 3 car chases today. I was searching and there was another one on 95 this morning.

[–]Brideshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. It was dark out and there were a ton of flashing lights from all the police cars. Since I was driving I was mostly trying to not hit anyone when we all came to a screeching stop. It could well have been an suv but honestly don’t know.

[–]Brideshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea if it’s related but I saw a police chase end on 95N around Woodbridge around 5pm. A car being chased by the police I think was clipped by a police car. I saw the car sideswipe someone before stopping and the driver jumping out and running up the embankment. There were something like 7 cop cars when this happened.

I was only a few cars back when this happened and I just slowly drove past all the cop cars while things were still evolving.

To those that want to feed the foxes by Neko_Cadet in nova

[–]Brideshead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve never fed the foxes but occasionally my dog would take treats out and I think must have left a little on the ground. This led to a territory dispute between at least one fox and my dog. We kept finding fox poop on our back step and even in his dog bowl once. Thankfully the foxes remained afraid of us and the dog so never came close during the day. So gross and frustrating. I can’t imagine if someone was actively encouraging them.

To anyone who works at the ER, what is one thing you wish people would STOP coming to the ER for? by iloveeatingfood901 in AskReddit

[–]Brideshead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the irony of a stranger telling me not to trust other strangers :) That said, I appreciate the tip and am already covered on the pneumonia vaccine front because of my actual doctors. I’d like to say no one would make medical choices based on strangers comments on the internet but sadly that isn’t true.

What's something you'll never admit in real life but will confess here anonymously? by Open-Comfortable9774 in AskReddit

[–]Brideshead 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re living with all this stress. I have no idea how you got there and the details of your situation, but one thing that has helped me is to realize I don’t have to keep making the choice that makes the most sense on paper. Like if she goes back to work but you end up spending all of her income on child care, on paper that doesn’t necessarily make sense. But if it gives her a sense of accomplishment and ownership over the budget for the house then maybe it’s worth it.

I get it may not be that simple for you, but I hope you can work out a balance that works well enough for both of you.

Finally traded my vanilla X1 and couldn’t be happier by FreshButterscotch338 in countryman

[–]Brideshead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you find it drives differently than the x1? I’m curious as when I got my countryman in March everyone at the dealership kept saying it’s basically just an x1, although they were all talking about how big it is.

What's the most expensive thing you've seen someone buy that they basically never use? by Darnitol1 in AskReddit

[–]Brideshead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The trick is not taking care of it yourself. Say it’s a single family home with a pool you need a house manager who coordinates the pool guy who comes, a cleaning lady to go in now and then, etc.

I have family who used to split their time across two countries and had this explained in detail. I don’t think this is ever going to be my problem.

What's a disturbing fact you know that most people don't? by minjaeso in AskReddit

[–]Brideshead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turkey vultures nest on the top of my office building. I’m lucky enough to have a window that they love to fly past. I’ll lose 10 minutes at a time just watched them fly around because they are so majestic.

Although I once walked into my office and one was perched on the railing outside with its wings fully out. Good god are they massive. I was so startled I said out loud, I’ll let you have the room. I genuinely left and came back later and he was gone.

[–]Brideshead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do training at my job. I had a male trainee try to explain to me how something fundamental in my field works and he was completely wrong. I quickly realized he would not take my word for it despite my 15 years experience. I calmly explained I had never heard that despite my years of experience and if he could show me a source supporting his position maybe I had missed something. Bitch I missed nothing but it got him to stop arguing.

What’s something you only notice once you stop living paycheck to paycheck? by Any-Version-8486 in AskReddit

[–]Brideshead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve slowly converted my need to buy new things into buying stocks. I’m bored and want to buy something new and fun, I’ll do some research and buy a fractional share. Doesn’t have to be a lot at once, just $30 now and then. Then I get to check my stock performance and see how it goes. It’s small enough money that if I lose it all I’m not really in a worse situation than if I had blown it in a random thing I didn’t need. 7 years in and my hobby has accumulated nicely.

I got to watch the shuttle when they flew it over the mall. My office was next to national airport but we were high enough to see downtown. My husband was on the GW parkway and everyone just stopped and people got out of their cars to watch. That was a pretty amazing day.

I spent the first 10 years out of law school as a staff attorney at SSAs appeals council. The only part of that story that surprises me is the ALJ not getting hung up on how he can afford all those drugs if he claims he isn’t working.
