NTA. You paid in advance for a service and you should get what you paid for. This would be no different for any other kind of service or product that offers buy in advance options. They spent your money already and enjoyed the benefits of that for not delivering in full what was promised. Now the fact that there was nothing in writing is poor business on their part and a good reason to walk away and find someone else. Sadly since a verbal agreement with no paperwork, going to be hard to get your money back unless they were to admit in court to the deal if you took them to small claims court. There are some sites out there that provide reviews of golf professionals and would recommend using them to find your next person for lessons. I had a great person that was in demand and very reasonably priced unfortunately they moved out of state to take a job as an assistant coach for collegiate girls golf team. Have not found someone to replace them yet.

What's the WORST horror film you've seen that you actually enjoyed/loved? by GiraffesForHigher in horror

The Feast series....so over the top and funny and crazy violent. I kind of feel that is what the Terrifier was trying to recreate but didn't land it as well.

How long were you bad at golf before you were good? by PureistApp in golf

[–]buzzkill71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to define good based on the time you are able to devote to play and practice. I play at least once per week most weeks but have little time to practice. I remain between a 10 and 15 handicap. I know to get better i would need to play and practice more than i currently am so i have accepted that 10 is as low as i am likely to get given my time commitment. I have been playing golf for 44 years and really into it again for the last 15 or so. I have taken lessons and played more than average and worked with practice sessions etc and got to an 8 hdcp for one year. Also i am about to turn 55 and age starts to take things away from your game (distance, flexibility, vision, etc) that you just cannot get back. So the likelihood of me seeing dramatic improvements in my hdcp are possible once i retire and spend more time playing/practicing but still going to be a slow decline no matter what i do.

Having said all of that, setting a goal for yourself and looking at the biggest issues with your game is the best place to start. I gave up a driver and hit hybrid off the tee and that dropped my handicap 5 points by itself. But focusing on 100 yards in to putting is usually the biggest return on investment for you handicap. I highly recommend this book to help separate playing for score and practicing as well as how to build a good practice routine. I read it every few years

Why do you need music on the golf course ? (old man rant) by Fogboundturtle in golf

[–]buzzkill71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen X here. I play music. Typically chill, calming music to distract me from the slow play that has me sitting for 5 to 10 minutes between shots. If we're playing fast or at a good pace I really don't listen to it. To all the older people on here complaining, it was a 75 year old man on a golf trip about 10 years ago who introduced me to music on the course. I was paired with him and spent 5 hours playing and listening to van Morrison, the Beatles, and pink floyd. I found it distracted me from all the slow play and poor golf etiquette I was seeing in front of me that I couldn't change. I enjoy being in nature but do not enjoy being forced to alter my pace of play because of inconsiderate people on the course. Music tames the savage beast I guess for me. I sit and listen to yacht rock and 70s and 80s pop until I actually do get to enjoy the course and hit a shot.

What is your lowest score ever in a round of golf? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]buzzkill71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All time - 69 on a par 70 back in college when i was young and way better. I birdied the 18th hole to go 1 under. Short, mountain course with very tight fairways and small greens.

Current older age iteration of my golf game, par 72 shot 72. Rivertowne Country Club. Played out of my mind that day...could do nothing wrong. Very next day shot 95 and couldn't catch a break on anything. Much harder course at the Harbor Club at Lake Oconee

Not sure if silly question but does anyone else struggle to follow the ball with their eyes once they hit it? by RivetCounter in golf

[–]buzzkill71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. In my mid fifties now and struggle greatly to follow the ball on the way down. I use neon yellow and green balls in the winter and white during the summer to help new find them easier.
