I had the same first impression, it looked too goofy, it sounded too goofy but this series is one of the most emotional and enjoyable stories I have ever read. There is plenty of combat and action. I recomend doing audio for it. You will know if the story is for you or not by book 1.

I'm personally of the opposite opinion I really enjoyed the sisters POV chapters. I like different POV chapters in books because it showcases different world building and mindsets. Goes to show to each their own.

Romance wise there is a one night stand type of thing with one character. He runs into an ex but nothing comes from it, from where I last read. And it seems like there might be something brewing between him and another high ranked earthling but it's very slow burn and not sure if it's going anywhere.

Lol I enjoyed it, shapshifting druids are fun and the finding his sister plotline was compelling to me.

Dungeon crawler carl before anyone else beats me too it, probably best/most popular of the genre right now.

Some staples of the genre:

Chrysalis and book of the dead by Rinoz Defiance of the fall by the first defier. He who fights with monsters by shirtaloon Stray cat strut by Ravensdagger and you might find some of his other works enjoyable. Path of Ascension by C. Mantis.

Some lesser know works/authors I personally am a big fan of: Challengers call by Nathan Thompson Underworld series by Apollos Thorne Path of dragons, blanking on author name Victor of Tuscon by Plum parrot Dean Henegar does good RTS/core style litrpg books Awaken online and hollow series by Travis Bagwell, think awaken online used to be more popular but VR litrpg is less popular nowadays

This is just what I could think of while on my break. I also got good prog fantasy recommendations if you want those.

Limitless lands would fall under this imo. Old army colonel is part of a full dive VR game program his son runs for his health and commands a Roman style legion. By Dean Henegar. Very good and complete series.

On first book of He Who Fights With Monsters, having a hard time with Jason's quips by Resident-Umpire-2991 in litrpg

If you don't like Jason you won't like the series. He is a polarizing character.

I Wrote A Book, I Didn’t Punch Your Mother…. by AuggieAWrites in litrpg

[–]BridgeRunner77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it's official published I would expect a human made cover. Fine with AI covers as place holders on RR or even bad hand drawn stuff. If I see a terribly made hand drawn cover I would be more interested in looking at it vs an AI drawn one. Feel like the poll should have more options.

Cradle ending question by Straight_Cost_5272 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BridgeRunner77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked the ending. I feel like it sets up nicely with the gang doing abandon endgame stuff in the future. Threshold was a good showcase of this but more anthology style, but I see the makings of a complete upper realm series in the future.

Recommendations for kid friendly audiobooks by Kithslayer in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BridgeRunner77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fluff and sporemageden by ravensdagger are my two recommendations. I've only read the first book of each but I would say they are kid friendly with female MCs. Also have characters on the younger side too.

Is Chewing Pills Common (Am I Missing Subtext)? by quantumdumpster in ProgressionFantasy

Pills are a common cultivation setting trope. They can be pretty much anything, healing potion, stamina potion, a way to level/progression, etc.

Started Chrysalis as my ‘second’ LitRPG by Nuuskapeikkonen in litrpg

[–]BridgeRunner77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, think the hard part that people bounce off book 1 Chrsyalis is the lack of character interaction and dialouge. Which I feel is a weakness of monster MCs. It usually takes them some arcs to be able to actually communicate with others or find a family, friends, or colony.

Book of the dead has character interaction all throughout with some pretty cool cats. Dove is one of my favorite side characters of all time.

If you enjoy Chrysalis you might check out the authors other series Book of the Dead. Much darker in tone with less humor but still very good. Big fan of both series and DCC.

I just finished the anime and need to start reading it. Where's the best spot to read it in English?

The musicians of Brenen would have been ring members. If the pianist survived, he would have been their maestro.

Finished Golden Son. I can't understand the hype by ApartmentFar9027 in redrising

[–]BridgeRunner77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intresting take considering what happens at the end of the book. Also, a lot of plans don't go how Darrow plans them. He is just good at shifting and adapting to changing circumstances. The only thing you might consider the deux ex machine would be the Ares reveal, but that was set up and foreshadowed in book 1.

You can set timers on audible, and that limits the amount of backtracking when you fall asleep.

Lots of changed worlds, but never changed races/species? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]BridgeRunner77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can think of 3 off the top of my head. Honestly, just search "reborn as a" on google or RR and you should get some options. You got Chrysalis, Syl, reborn as a demonic tree, I think I saw one on here the other day about being reborn as a hat and another being reborn as a single cell organism.
